Do you have AAA? I go back and forth on it. I currently have it but have let it lapse in the past. I have used on a few occasions with car issues, which comes in handy.

With that being said, my wife and I are going to take our daughter to Disney World next month for a long weekend. She is too young to fully take it all in so only going for 2 days. I went and spoke with a travel agent Saturday and it was a complete cluster. Took over and hour to get all the details worked out. Came home to do it online myself, and it was the exact price, down to the penny and I completed it in less than 5 minutes. Why in the hell do they market themselves as "Disney Specialists?" I thought going through them I should get some type of discount.

Married in 2006 and HM in Hawaii. AAA wanted to charge me over $7000 for a week in Maui. Booked trip myself and stayed in Waikiki for 3 nights and then Maui for 7 for under $3500 total. I have now learned my lesson....dont use a AAA travel agent.

AAA good for car breakdowns and believe it or not, they have extremely low homeowner's and auto insurance

If you find a few AAA discounts the membership easily will pay for itself for the year, so yes i have it, i think it's worth it.

Most auto insurance has a "stranded motorist" add-on that is MUCH cheaper than the AAA membership. Not sure about other discounts, but I usually get a military discount that is equal or better than AAA.

My wife is the biggest Disney-phile on the planet. She can plan our vacations down to the minute-by-minute. Ultimately though, she will book them through AAA, because of some of the additional add-ons or bonuses you get through booking with them. Plus, sometimes Disney will put out special pricing through AAA and others to help ensure they get more bookings in the non-peak seasons.

I got 10% off at KY Korner because I had a AAA card. My dad gets me a membership each year 'cause he's cool like that.

I can't imagine using a travel agent for anything anymore.

I've got it and have since I started driving in 76. Would never think to use it for a trip to Disney World though.

I used to have AAA, but there are many plans out there just as good that are a lot cheaper.

We keep AAA current. Whoever (me or wife) has the older, not under warantee car, has it in there name, so if break down can get the free tow. For us the biggest advantage is the hotel discount, so every time we go to my in-laws it saves us $10/night roughly.

I also switched my auto-insurance through them 4-5 years ago. My wife had an accident, first in over 20 years, and Allstate screwed us over. AAA insurance was the best deal.

I've only booked travel trough them once, and that was our honeymoon over 20 years ago, so I can't make any recent judgement on the quality of that aspect of AAA.

But just from the hotel discounts, we probably save twice what we pay a year for AAA.

We used AAA for our 2014 Disney trip. We had never used them before to book a trip and had not been to Disney in over 20yrs. We wanted to stay in one of the Disney resorts, so we just let them book it all. My wife still had to book all the "special" meals and the Fast Pass rides. 90 or 60 days before the trip, can't remember which, the lady called us and said we hadn't paid the remaining balance. :scream:

Hey, you stupid *****, we gave you our credit card when we booked the trip initially and just assumed you would charge the remaining balance when due. Fortunately nothing got cancelled, but they seemed to be completely overwhelmed every time we went in there to pick up tickets, wristbands, etc.

Do NOT use them for travel plans. We're going back to Disney for spring break this year, booked it all through Disney...much easier.

AAA is another tool to use like Expedia. Compare to orbitz, hotel.com and individual vendor site. If you don't have the time or inclination then just pay a travel agent.
Was able to get unreal rate on rental car out of Boston.
Car and homeowners insurance are just like banks and cable vs satellite. Will give you a great rate to switch but gradually but regularly raise your rates.

Why on earth did you go to a travel agent to begin with? Most useless profession on earth nowadays

Agree!

Last year my wife thought she would go to a travel agent, she wanted to go to Costa Rica, but for when we were wanting to go everything I read said Belize was better. Of course wife always knows better, until the travel agent told her the same thing I did. And then he gave her a price on a vanilla (sightseeing) trip to Belize. So she then let me book it instead, and for slightly less we got an exciting (adventure) trip to Belize.
The travel agent was also bothered that we were planning this trip only 1 month before we planned to leave. Hey, that's better than the year before when we planned our trip to Colorado only 10 days before leaving.
