Would suck to see him go, but if you aren't losing members of your staff to promotions at other jobs, you probably don't have a very good staff.

On one hand I appreciate the transparency, on the other concentrating on the task at hand, and nothing but the task, doesn't seem to be much of a priority. I don't remember hearing so much about staff and players wanting to jump ship before the conference tournament has even started.

You do not parlay assistant coach job at the University of Kentucky for a gig at Stephen F Austin in this day and age.
You try for a mid major.
You talk some 4 stars struggling to meet expectations to step down and contribute.
Hopefully make an Ncaa tourney or run in NIT and move up to P5.
SFA is Southland conference in Nagodoches. No way to use any recruiting experience there.

Agreed, I wouldn't put any stock into that tweet. He would be taking a pay cut of almost half. His salary at UK for next season will be $825,000+ and Stephen F. Austin's last head coach was making about $425,000.

I’m sure if he went they would negotiate to get him over that. Media deals make up the majority of their salary anyway. The base salary for Hubert Davis is 400k. By the time he gets paid by Nike, media deals, and incentives he makes like 5 million a year.

agree
why is all this talk of transfers, coaches looking for other jobs, coming out now?
everyone involved with UK basketball should be concentrating on trying to win these last 2 league games, and how to win games in the SEC & NCAA tournaments

If he bounces we probably promote Mikhail McLean to a recruiting assistant and then bring in a defensive specialist (AB3 is our main defensive coach from what I gather)

Great points - however, I can’t imagine there is significant money from media or shoe companies for Stephen F Austin……

Tell them to pluck someone from Kansas or Duke.

It's amazing we have a coach for one year, and we technically didn't win anything yet, and our staff is already being poached. Meanwhile it seems a plethora of other coaches just retain most of their guys for years. Guys like Jai Lucas and Nolan Smith are exceptions, but both of them are kind of job-hoppers and unproven anyways.

I swear Kentucky basketball is cursed.

See ya dude. Idk what everyone thinks but imo pope needs to get rid of fox and overhaul the staff to bend toward strengthening our defensive abilities.

If this guy WAS our defensive assistant.. well then maybe him taking another job isn't the worst thing lol. I'm not gonna be tok hard on our defense in year 1 with a ton of midmajor players.. but the coach could have done a LITTLE bit better of a job with what we had.

If Brooks gets that job, maybe Pope can bring in a top defensive specialist a' la Billy Donovan back in the day.
Good grief, Donovan will be dead 2 years before people here stop trying to hire him. He's turned us down repeatedly for the Head Coach job, but I'm sure he'd rush to be an assistant .
Some of y'all are like a pathetic ex. Get it thru your head, he don't love you anymore.

I agree with your point, but I think the guy you quoted was implying we do something LIKE getting Billy D as an assistant.. not actually going after him.

You didn't comprehend the post, my friend. Maybe you're not old enough or don't remember. But back in the day Donovan's teams at Marshall and FL were considered good offensive teams, but poor defensive teams. After a few years of the defense end killing FL, Donovan very publicly went out and brought in an older coach that was highly thought of as a defensive coach - and it worked.

So, no. I'm not suggesting UK hire Billy Donovan as a defensive specialist.

Apologies. And I am plenty old(61). If you reread your post, you can see the confusion. Replace "a'la" with "like Billy Donovan did" or something similar, and it makes sense.

Lots of talk Fueger may get a look at Utah. He coached under Majerus...not litterally under him, that would have been painful. But he was an asst of some sort.

Not sure if anyone posted, but two of Brooks kids have autism and one has a severe case. One of the big reasons why he chose to come to UK was the local support in that regard. Don't know about SFA, but sounds like Lexington offered more local support than Waco.

That's big city territory in comparison to where I'm from. But I know Oil Springs - Blairs?
