Adversity Matters

This team could have easily folded earlier this season after a few very painful & emotionally draining losses. To be so close and not be able to get over the finish line is extremely taxing on player's, emotions, attitudes, dedication, determination, work ethics, etc...

To see them fight and claw their way back to be able to make it to a bowl, shows we have a good group of young Mountaineers and a staff to pull them through tough times. Hopefully this team going through such adversity this season will only validate & magnify their offseason efforts and team chemistry. Sometimes the biggest gains are experienced in the toughest hardships.

1 more Win to end the season on a high note! I just hope we get a decent opponent that will help us in our recruiting(assuming we win).

Meh. We dont deserve a bowl game. Im glad to see the team rally to a .500 season after our first 3 losses, which were all very winnable (MD, OU, TTU), but having a winning record should be a requirement for making it to a bowl game and the NCAA was stupid when they changed that. Never agreed with it, never will. Our season should be over. Maybe we will win the Poulan Weedwacker Bowl though I reckon. Yay....pfft

I remember the days when this board would make fun of rival schools for getting a bowl in colder climates, and even being upset when WVU made one outside of Florida.

Now we have posters thumping their chests over going .500.

WVU barely beat a 6-6 VT team. Was in close games with 5-7 Texas and 2-9 Kansas. Lastly one win was a gimme in a glorified scrimmage. Only decent win was a 38-31 win vs a 7-5 ISU team and the only time we beat a bad team by more than one score was 29-17 vs 5-7 TCU. Not impressive at all. They didn't roll over and give up, but they certainly didn't "claw their way" back into anything with maybe the exception of the ISU game.

The problem is they just aren’t good, and the QB position is the biggest anchor for this group and the staff seems willing to let Doege play until he’s 40 if the NCAA were to allow it. The amount of effort they give is fine, but effort isn’t even half the equation to success. Kansas gave good effort, but they’re 2-10 and got handled at home by a 6-6 team, and their best player is a walkon… end of the day talent wins and we don’t have it.

So you would have preferred we lost to Kansas.

Anything below 8 wins is unacceptable in my book under normal conditions. But the past few years have been anything but normal. In fact, you could say we are 3 deviations below normal, from a talent & experience perspective.

6-7 wins is nothing to write home about, but when you are 2-4, with 3 tough hard fought close losses, with a very young team, my point here is this team could have cashed it in at MANY different points this season, but they didnt. They deserve recognition for their determination to not give up and compete at their best.

When you compare WVU historical rosters, from year to year, 2019, 2020, & 2021 are extremely deviated, next year will be the first year where the talent & experience will be somewhat close to our historical average the past 20 years or so. The situation was so dire, it took basically 4 years to get back to average(from talent & experience perspective).

WE ALL WANT WVU TO BE GREAT!

We just need to be realistic about the time it takes to make such significant changes+improvements. We'll have a better idea of the answer to these questions by the end of next season, with confirmation by the end of the 2023 season. Even then the 21 & 22 classes will still be young, but we should begin to see NB's vision for how he truly wants to deploy without so many limitations.

My last sentence wasn't directed at you, but rather the handful of asses on here on who don't even dignify a response.

I've always read your posts as someone desperately, but measured and logically, searching for the silver lining, which is needed to counter the logic-based doom and gloomers.

Ha, yeah... I think IM an optimistic realist, lol.. Balance & diversification are def good things, esp here... It can get dark on here sometimes. Emotion rules the day in many instances, which I honestly understand, as we are all emotionally invested in WVU, well..... at least the ones here are who are actual WVU fans.
