Anyone ever dealt with bed bugs?

If so, what did you have to do? Any advice etc? Anyone in Lexington that you can pay to deal with it?

How screwed am I?

Yep. You're screwed. May as well burn everything ya got. Serious as a socrotum singe.

Never had them, but damn I'd rather catch gonorrhea.

There are companies that deal with it. I don't know any in the Lexington area but I'm sure 80 Proof does.

I do know that they can be dealt with by using high heat. We don't address bed bugs but I know I that there is equipment that can safely heat a room, house, etc to a temp which kills them and their eggs,

I'd probably want to go that route before chemicals.

I've spent thousands on several of my properties. Two treatment options, a spray treatment, with monthly follow up for 6 months. And heat treatment, where they heat your entire home up to like 140 degrees. The heat treatment is significantly more expensive. I pay $1000 for heat treatment, on small 1 BDRM apartments, and that's special pricing since I have multiple properties under monthly contract.
The heat treat is usely reserved for serious infestation.

Heat treatment is the only thing that will work. You're looking at $1000 for a normal sized house. That and taking every machine washable thing you own and running it through the dryer.

I've worked in hotels. Bed bugs are a freaking nightmare

You are so screwed.

It is like getting excited to move into a new house only to find you are moving back into the same POS. And let's be honest, even if it is "treated" you know you are still going to "feel" them crawling all over you.

Burn that ***** to the ground and get you some insurance money. I hear a potato chip bag in the oven on 350 should do the trick. GO the Final Four or something when you do it. No one will ever know.

If you wanted to DIY it! you could rent a propane heater from Sunbelt and cook the room for a few hours.

Have to do every room or it won't work

This does not sound good at all.

So, there is spray treatment (chemicals). And there is the more costly, but it sounds like more effective heat treatment.

All washable clothes to the dryer? What about stuff like suits? Obviously those can't be washed and dried. Does dry cleaning do anything for them?

Also, any recommendations for pest control companies in Lex would be appreciated. From googling it, this State Standard Pest Control might be good.

Picked my daughter up at school last week and there was a service van in front with " The Bed Bug Specialists" and a company name on it. I will be keeping up with this thread.

Back in my day we just had good 'ol head lice.

I stayed at a hotel in New York a few years ago and woke up with bites on my back and arms. I didn't see them but I knew what it was. Contacted the hotel and they denied everything, refused to even apologize to me for it

When I got home I didn't even bring the suitcase inside the house. No way was I taking a chance of bringing those things into my house.

You mean that isn't part of your daily regimen anyway? It is mine.

I use Greg Millard with Pestworks for all pest issues.

Luckily, I've not had any issues with bed bugs (yet) but one of my managers had extensive training at his previous job in dealing with them. According to his research, the only way to truly get rid of them is with heat (or DDT, which isn't legal anymore). The other sprays will kill them but not their eggs or something like that.

This thread.

Why oh why would you ever ask the Paddock for help with such an issue?. I think the only things worse to ask about is ED and HIV.

Nah, I'm turning to professionals for actual help with the issue. Just asking here in case anyone had any personal experiences. Such as what to expect or who to hire type of thing.

1. Shave everything (and every body)
2. Ask the doctor for prescription shampoo. For lice, ours reluctantly gave us Lindane (sp). Smelled like Raid. He told us to use it very carefully.
3. Strip all beds; wash blankets, washable rugs, cushions, etc....

4. Wash enough clothes to get you through a couple of weeks. Dry them thoroughly...or better, buy new (different) clothes for everyone in your house and all of you go on a vacation to a clean hotel for about 2 weeks.

5. Put all pets outside...and leave them.

6. Have a reputable company come in and treat your home at least twice. That should not only kill the live ones, but the second treatment should get any that hatch. Since they need blood to survive, many would starve to death if everyone is out of the house.

Good luck and God bless!

Don't listen to these idiots. Just wear fencing outfits in the house for 12 months and you'll be fine.

Had them at one time and it took several treatments and lot of stuff with your clothes and other things mentioned earlier...A big pain and they are almost impossible to get rid of ...Live in Louisville and we used Black Diamond...They also use dogs now to sniff them out...GOOD LUCK!!!

You could release a bunch of spiders in your beds to eat the bedbugs. Then release a bunch of chickens in the beds to eat the spiders. Then release a bunch of weasles to eat the chickens. Then shoot the weasles and make yourself a nice pair of weasle mittens. Circle of life my friend...

Wolf weasels. Pretty much an eating machine. They eat the feathers and all. You got to shoot them before they see you, though. Otherwise the sneaky little bastards will hide in the walls and taunt you for months on end.

If a weasel eats chickens, wouldn't a mink do the same? If so, I recommend purchasing minks for the purpose of chicken eradication....
