On one hand our economy is connected to China's because we trade a lot with them but OTOH the people that run China are bad people. China has a very repressive government and it wouldn't make me feel bad if they got some pressure put on them. You can look up what life in China is like.
Here's an anecdote. I listen to a radio show when I'm getting ready for work in the morning. It is a show where guys sit around and talk about current events and make jokes, yadda, yadda. Regular stuff.
So one of the hosts and his wife was planning a trip to China, to occur during their spring vacation of this year. He'd mention now and then how he was having a hard time getting a visa, etc, because the Chinese were so suspicious of him because he was a media person, despite the fact that his show is completely non-political.
Eventually he got his visa and he and his wife went there. While there they visited American friends (husband and wife) that were working in China for Volvo. They live in a high rise in Beijing.
The wife said that a couple days before the US radio host arrived to visit, the wife was in her bedroom in the high rise in Beijing and she came out of her bedroom into the living room to find two men standing there. It wasn't robbers. These were government guys. They made some excuse why there were there but the reality is they were either in the process of bugging the place or else they just wanted to intimidate her because they knew her American friends were coming to visit.
