I really really don't understand that, but yes, at least not to a blueblood.

I have no ties to Mormonism, but I could see adopting BYU as second favorite. They gave us Pope, and I watched tons of their old games during the summer.

That’s an interesting one. I’ve also been curious about the billions the Mormon church has. Obviously they are putting some towards BYU but also wondering if some might give Pope some through back channels. Having a Mormon coaching a high profile program and doing well looks good for the Mormon church as well.

According to what I’ve gathered they wouldn’t open the checkbook up for Pope but would for Kevin Young.

That's because when the Kentucky job came open, Arkansas opened their checkbook, Kentucky opened their checkbook, and BYU was pressured downstream. Almost all major programs with coaching changes have had to offer NIL packages to coaches as an additional benefit to landing high name coaches.

In some ways, if anyone gets credit for AJ Dybantsa to BYU, it's Jeff Enfield going to SMU

Kevin Young was not a “big name” in anything but coaching circles.

The fact is BYU fans feel they got an upgrade over Pope and the big money said they’d fund it which they didn’t want to do with Pope for whatever reason.

I don't think that's a true statement. Kevin Young was a huge haul for BYU. He was an association head coach for the Phoenix Suns. Couldn't ask for more if you're a BYU fan.

You have to try to weed out these mindsets. Collection of mercenaries aren't playing for the name on the front of the jersey, as a general rule of thumb
I can’t say that at 18 years old it wouldn’t be about the millions for me or anyone else with common sense. I love my Cats as much as anyone, but not more than millions of dollars in my pocket.

The average college basketball fan has no idea who Kevin Young is. Everyone knows who John Calipari is.

Again BYU fans are happy because they think he’s an upgrade and the big money seems to agree because they are giving him blank checks which they didn’t want to give Pope.

I’m not saying it’s true. I’m just giving you what the consensus is among BYU fans.

That's so screwed up it's pathetic. College sports as we know it are dying. This kid is making more than his coach and ours too. This is equal to making 200k/year for 35-40 years to play 1 season of college bb. Amateur sports are gone.
Yep. Done. Adapt or die I guess. I'm ok with true Name, Image and Likeness but it's pay for play. I think contracts will be happening soon.

I think the Suns made him the highest paid assistant in the NBA when they hired Vogel so he must know a little bit about basketball

amateur sports were gone once the games were played Infront of 20k fans with 500million dollar tv contracts. you want amateur let a professor coach them and take the games off tv. you want it ran like a pro league, like they have been since the 80s they need to be paid.

Im excited he didn't come to Kentucky.

AJ Dybantsa is a user. Just like Calipari. Just like most of the players Calipari brought here. I don't want users at Kentucky. I want players that want to represent Kentucky for Kentucky not because it gets them to the NBA before they've even played a game here.

Good luck to all the Dybantsa's coming up, but please, move along. You aren't needed here.
