I have been following Reed's progress in the minors and his short visits to Houston. I really hope he catches on, but I don't know. I follow him particularly because he was a freshman when I started following Kentucky Baseball seriously. What do you guys think, do you think the Astros have given him a fair shot?

The astros are loaded - so they have probably given him about as fair a shake as you can while winning it all.
Gurriel and M Gonzalez took off and left Reed in the dust. Trade may give him an opportunity, don't see him getting a chance to hang around the big leagues with the Astros while going through growing pains.
He had a good spring batting .300 and shed about 35 unneeded #'s, but he hasn't done well when he has been called up. Had a great opportunity this spring with with Houston's star 1st baseman being injured and out for six weeks, but he didn't make the roster. There was talk about just making him a DH, but the coach said at only 24 they didn't want to go that route yet. I personally would like to see him get traded.
I don't really know why the Stros are holding on to him. At some point it makes more sense to trade him considering he is not at a position of need.
Nope. Part of his problem is a lack of versatility. He's either 1B or DH. That doesn't leave a lot of available positions.
It's way too late now, but when he was at UK he was a pretty good pitcher, too. Maybe he should have gone down that path.
Maybe. Not sure of the potential he had there, but teams seem to value offense more than pitching, so they definitely wanted his power. Not sure exactly what his struggle in the majors has been. Don't know if it's not seeing the ball or just so much better pitching or certain pitches, but you'd think he could get it worked out.
Agree. He probably didn't land in the best organization for his personal interests. I'm kind of surprised the Astros haven't shopped him around a bit more aggressively, but perhaps they still really love the potential in his bat.
Nah. He was a great hitter. He was a decent college pitcher, not really overpowering.
He seems to be pretty well blocked in the Astro's organization. I hope he is traded soon.
Update: AJ has been hot lately. Hitting .270 with 10 hrs & 40 RBIs at present.
