Um, It's been over 50 years since I was there. The one memory that lasted a lifetime was camping in the Pines.

Kings Canyon is just as nice and far less crowded. Get a place in Cedar Grove.

Also, five hour hikes in the heat, YMMV.

I’ve hiked and fished on north, east and south sides of Yosemite. If you want to see fewer people, pretty much pick a trail. It may not reduce any FOMO you have though.

And nobody goes to Yosemite anymore - it’s too crowded.

Half Dome is a great hike that goes very close to at least two beautiful waterfalls. Nowadays, I believe you need a permit to go all the way to the top of Half Dome, so plan accordingly. You need to be in really good hiking shape for the Half Dome hike, but just going to the top of the falls is doable as well.

Another beautiful hike is to start at Glacier Point and hike from there back down into Yosemite Valley. As it is downhill the whole way, it is a less strenuous hike than the Half Dome hike.

If you hike from Glacier Point down to the Valley there is the Four Mile Trail which is straight down and more like five miles. I would recommend another route from Glacier Point to Nevada Fall then follow the Merced River past Vernal Fall to the Valley. It’s about 8.5 miles but the same amount of downhill and you get to go past the two falls.

My daughter and her husband finished the half dome summit hike last week. They trained a couple of months for the hike (they run 10K’s) so they could do it without getting exhausted. They started at 4AM so they could summit early and descend the steepest part (hand cables area) without having to deal with people ascending at the same time. My daughter only stopped a short while on the way down to rest her hands.

This is not a 4 hour hike and is quite demanding. So I would not recommend it unless you are in top notch physical shape.

How was Yosemite? It's always been on my bucket list but I've heard horror stories about crowds and after dealing with the crowds at Zion I said never again. Apparently I was one of the lucky ones that got to MOAB before it became really super popular same with Canyon Lands.
I think next on my list now is the Bisti Badlands, I was there once but would like to hire a guide. It's a very, very easy place to get lost in.

The tourists are horrible and have completely ruined Yosemite.

Don’t give up on the many Utah NP’s. Just wait until late fall and visit mid-week. The chilly temps drive away many of the tourists.

Easy solution - go to popular parks during shoulder seasons.
You won’t find a more jaw-dropping 7 miles on earth than the Yosemite valley.

Been to Yosemite many times. As a kid we camped there. Back in the 60s, during the Sunmer months, they would build a huge bonfire at Glacier Point. At 9pm they would push it off. Yeah, they stopped that. Saw the Grand Hotel at Glacier Point before it burnt to the ground. Never rebuilt that hotel. Took the wifey to the Firefall a few years back. It happens in February at the seasonal Horsetail Fall. The setting Sun hits the Fall just right. It makes it appear like the water coming off the Fall is on fire.

Vernal and Nevada falla up and back, or a different return route —I think the Muir trail is very doable in 4 hrs.

A short, fabulous hike is Sentinel dome. Best panoramic views in Yosemite. About a 1-2 hr hike allowing plenty of time to walk around the top of the dome.

Thank you Nutlick,
Does this prequalify me for acceptance to your "The Cult"?

When did you start becoming so political? It's rather sad to see this. I've been to Yosemite many times. Climbed everything there when I lived in AZ. Literally, took a "white, steril Buffalo" out to the Crow nation years ago from NC in the winter. Drove over to Yosemite, and dropped down into Colorado for the NFR finals.

FYI, redneck comes from Irish and Scottish slaves and indentured servants.

"🤷🏼‍♂️OMG. You are fundamentally stupid."

Would you or most of the others call another"...stupid"?
.... nothing political here....
