Visiting with the family this summer and staying at the Samoset Resort. Looking for family friendly dining/attractions/shopping/unique nearby towns or destinations. We are planning a trip to Acadia National Park (tips appreciated) and maybe an afternoon boat tour (puffins/whales?). Kids are 10 and 8. We may be ‘vacation’ house shopping a bit too (for down the road)….

Samoset is very nice. Bring Insect repellent.

You probably have to drive an hour to Booth Bay to get a puffin cruise. Booth Bay is a nice little town with neat shops but it will cost $40 to park. They have a popcorn store that makes many flavors. One is cheeseburger and it really tastes like cheeseburger. Boats go to Easter Egg Rock (40 min?) to see the Puffins. You'll definitely see puffins but the boats aren't allowed to get too close to the island and Puffins are too small and quick to get good photos. We took binoculars with variable magnification. Lower magnification allows you to spot them before zooming in for a better look. You're probably see a couple of whales but how many and how close is a crap shoot.

Looks beautiful. One of the things we did with the kids was stop for an ice cream cone every day we were out and about. Blueberry pies and ice cream cones.

The blueberries were awesome in Maine. Hiking in Acadia, they were everywhere and even though they were small, they were sweet like candy.
