I took a look at Florida's stats just now and noticed that Murphy's stats were pretty much the same as they were at Duke. I talking about PT, ppg , fgp and just about else close to the same. He's in his third year at Florida right and I was just wondering if there was a special reason those stats haven't vastly improved. Has he been hurt most of the time or some other reason. I now he left Duke for lack of opportunity of PT and the chance to enhance hi career at Florida. I remember Coach K being questioned by some Duke fans for not giving him a chance along with some other transfers throughout the years. I like Murphy while at Duke and really wanted too see him breakout but for some reason my memories of him are back doors and his man blowing by him. He could shoot the 3 ball on occasions but that was about it. He was one player I had wished to see it through to completion at Duke. Is it a possibility that he completely lost confidence at Duke. Anyone have a take on him. OFC

I don't think it would have made much difference but I do believe he was hurt earlier this season. But sometimes players just don't measure up to expectations. I think he falls into that category. Very few if players that left Duke really made a huge impact at other schools. Gbinije may be one hat improved but I can't remember any others but I am an OFC member now

Geramanton, any OFC should remember Billy McCaffrey. He did very well at Vandy. Duke really could have used him in 93, which would have been his Sr. year.

McCaffrey knew he needed to be featured at pg to have any NBA shot and he couldn't with Hurley ahead of him.

The way I heard it, RUMORS about a Gbinije transfer prompted him to go.

There was someone whose name escapes me who ended up being respectable at an Ivy or Patriot League team, and Jamal Boykin was a respectable contributor at Cal.

I heard a story about Murphy where K told someone something like, "You know how you like girls and are interested in them, and then you get laid for the first time, and then that's the only thing you can think about? You're just obsessed with getting some more? Well, Alex needs to get f****d by basketball."

Don't mean to get off the subject, remember Jack Marin That's who Luke Kennard reminds me of.

Mr McCaffrey was a special player at Duke and hit some big time threes in the tourny down the stretch.. I was thinking more of a transfer that went on to another school and turned his career around enough to make it into the NBA. Ive always felt like thats why alot of kids transfer, knowing they will not get the opportunity to display there skills at Duke, and moving on in hopes of living the dream at the next level. I know that there are alot of transfers that have played at the next level, I just could not remember any that left Duke but I am probably wrong. My wife tells that all the time. OFC

Joey Beard. He had a very respectable career at Boston U.

He did have this ONE nice highlight at Duke.

I remember telling myself that he was going to come out of his shell after that play. I really wanted him to be good for us, he was fun to watch coming out of high school.

You are right. He does remind me of Marin with his game. Love having him in the game at the end or at crucial times when free throws are so important. OFC

There have been so many rumors about this kid(and others). But one that stands out the most, is 'his camp' felt he was a legit 1st round pro after two years if he got pt and played in the right system. Some even thought he was better than Erik.

He never displayed the 'extra'. He played too soft, slow and no energy at times. Injuries? Position? System? All of those could be legit reasoning or excuses.

Regardless, 4 and 5 star players go to certain schools for immediate playing time, showcase their skills and directions to the NBA after one or two years.

Sorry Alex!

I remember Billy very well. Growing up in Nashville at that time, he was definitely my favorite college basketball player at the time. That was a very, very good Vandy team his Senior year. To this day, I don't know how they got bounced by Temple in the S16.

So if anyone says you need to be part of the OFC club to remember Billy McCaffery, please shoot me...I'm not that old yet.

Wow that is a heck of a comparison.Hope he can get close to how good Jack was. I believe it was Bucky Waters who said that that Jack was the best all-round player we had still Grant got here

20% career 3-point shooter and 55% from the foul line. He would be a 5th-year senior this year at Duke, but I'm not sure how valuable he'd really be as he doesn't exactly stretch the opposing defense the way K's system is designed. I like Alex and I wish him the best, but he was never going to play at an elite level at a big-time program.
