Wow....this is even more concerning than I thought. Maybe this trend started long before the portal and NIL, but it appears they both have decimated the smaller conferences. I guess the expansion of the B10 (PSU, Nebraska, MD, and Rutgers) also contributed, especially with PSU rise to dominance. I guess I should have expected this large gap when someone posted during the weekend (I think before the last day) that 4 teams had 100 points, and they were 3 B10 and 1 Big 12 teams. I just seem to remember when I followed wrestling when I was younger there were more teams and many more smaller schools having success.

Of OkSts 20.5 bonus points 4 came from Medical Forfeits. They were the beneficiary of 2 of the 5 MFFL in the tournament. Both in matches where they would have been the underdog (Ryder v. Allred; Doucet v. Ferrari). Welsh did get one of 3 inj bonus points v. Allred. But Feldman not being healthy and going out to Pitzer also opened it up for Doucet to beat Pitzer late by fall. Ryder and Doucet definitely had some fortunate circumstances to get them to AA. I know, I know...lots of what ifs but it did seem like lots of things went OkSTs way during the tournament and they still were 50 points off the pace.

PSU's dominant style of wrestling is unique, OkST is definitely not close to there yet. Break down bonus by weight class/wrestler:

Luke 1 v. Spratley 3
Blaze 4.5 v. Jax 6
Davis 0 v. Vega 2
SVN 5 v. Swiderski 1
Duke 7 v. Robideau 0
Mess 5.5 v. Locket 0
Haines 6.5 v. Facundo 0
Welsh 4.5 (incl Allred inj) v. Ryder 3 (incl Allred MFF)
Barr 5 v. Merrill 1.5
Miraola 1.5 v. Doucet 4 (incl Ferrari MFF)

Taking out the MFFL and inj matches, PSU earned bonus in 26 matches to OkST in 11. I don't see us dropping off and potentially only getting better (certainly at 125 and 141), I don't see that so much from the wrestlers on the OkST side and they need to if they want to close the gap and try to knock us off in the tournament (may have a better chance at a dual). Their freshman performed great, but outside of the freak at 133 the other 4 had bonus in 2 of 18 matches. Our freshman including Cole, had bonus in 8 of 16 matches (all TFs or Falls and Cole left one MD decision out there in round 1). They may be coming but the hill is steeper than the narrative right now.
