All time wins status now that Pope is UK's HC

I believe the lead is in good hands with Coach Pope.
Self is the King of regular season dominance. As long as he is at KU it's gonna be tough to stay ahead of them.
With some of the better teams leaving the Big 12 and with the SEC expansion it’s going to be easier for Kansas to get more regular season wins and it will be more difficult for Kentucky to expand the lead. Also, didn’t Kansas have to forfeit some wins a few years ago? And it’s just a 5 game lead now?
Self is due for an eventual decline over the next decade. Pope will outlast and extend.
Thanks to Calipari, North Carolina has gotten uncomfortably close to us as well.
KU is at a peak and Kentucky is in a revolution. I like our longterm prospect though.
When Cal took over as coach we were only 4 games ahead of UNC.

This doesn’t make sense how is it easier for Kansas to rack up wins when you add Arizona and Houston to the conference and even BYU has NIL money that is making them a legit wildcard.

Kansas on the other hand has been seemingly gaining for decades. I once looked up every coach Sutton to Cal and it hasn't been a great look for going on almost 40 years now.
Doesn’t help the ACC has tanked in quality lately too. It’s them Duke and occasionally UVA or another team that is good occasionally. Meanwhile SEC has gotten much better over the last 5 years.
That’s not a defense of Cal either. That’s just saying we don’t have a weak conference anymore.
The thing people don't like to really admit is if you remove a ten year stretch where we caught lightening in a bottle with Pitino and then Cal this program has not been close to the gold standard over the last 40 years.
Especially in the new conference alignments. The B12 is a glorified mid major now. It’s essentially conference USA rebranded w some old B12 holdovers. Go look at conference affiliation from 20 years ago to now.
Meanwhile, the traditional power brands have all came to the SEC or B10
What? The B12 might be the best conference in basketball right now and is no doubt top 3. They lost Texas and OU but gained Arizona. They have Kansas, Houston, Baylor, Arizona, and might be adding UConn. Iowa St. is also a top program at the moment and BYU looks to be on the rise with their new coach.

Don't forget we were built for March so the regular season didn't matter.
Seems like Cal got his months confused as we won 7 of 8 (mostly in February) and then crapped the bed in March. 2024 and 2022 had a lot of awful similarities. So much potential wasted.
It's ironic the weakest of our last 3 teams is the only one that won a ncaa tourney game. Low bar but still interesting.
Pretty sure Cal wasn't building for either. Certainly wasn't coaching for either.
Didn't some of their wins happen when they played for the bread championship?
Because of the opponent. Providence wasn’t nearly as good as the two powerhouses we lost to in ‘22 and ‘24.
Wonder if they could put the all -time winning percentage beside the win totals?
And thanks to Calipari, our lead over UNC over the last 4 seasons has gone from 42 to only a 26 game lead. Not to mention the fact that if the NCAA didn't strip Kansas of 15 wins that they would have a 10 game lead over us. If The Kentucky men's basketball program was a country. Calipari would have just about taken us to 3rd world status.
This is football thinking. Basketball has more "major" conferences in it's history. The names are often evolving. Big East. Metro. Conference USA. Missouri Valley. Mountain West Schools outside the football conferences have often thrived and some have had mini dynasties. Now, maybe money gets that more in line, but not yet.
St. Peter's was a well coached team. We never ever should've lost to them but they played solid. And we choked. Awful loss, but it's not completely inexplicable logically speaking. They also beat an upstart Murray and Purdue, so they earned a bit of their wins. Again, we were up 6 and never ever should've lost it.
Oakland on the other hand. I still don't get. We just let that dude shoot all night and Cal was like, "i dunno what to do!" That loss cost Cal the rest of what little support he had when he got Reed and DIlly and DJ. If there's one thing we can thank Cal for it's for saving us millions and going to Arkansas. Can you imagine if he hadn't? The morale right now would be underground and I think the axe would've been very sharp.
I can't imagine UCONN leaving the BIg East. It will kill that conference basketball wise. They'll still have some decent teams in there in the likes of Marquette and St. John's, but the rest is very inconsistent (teams like Xavier, Seton Hall, Georgetown, Butler CAN be good, but it's hit or miss). But there's no doubt who is the centerpiece of that conference atm.
So if you remove almost 60% of our history over the last 40 years, in other words?
Truth be told, if we're going by just the last 40 years, Kansas, UNC, and Duke can all make a case for gold standard status.

Kansas will be pressured in the Big 12.
Houston, BYU, Baylor, Arizona, Iowa State, and Cincy all have good programs. Hopefully UConn makes the leap to the Big 12 to apply even more pressure.
The SEC still has more quality programs, but not by much.

I have tried to argue on here winning percentage is more telling a stat but the majority of this board disagreed.
No thanks to Cal. For as much talent we had he only went +1 from where UK was in 2009. And only in the positives because KU had wins vacated, otherwise he would have been -14.
You're absolutely right, but as Kentucky fans, we want it all. That just comes with the pedigree.
I don’t want any other team to have a stat over us. I want to be the Yankees where there can be no denial in UK’s status as the best.
