I know most on the Paddock probably have their own private planes.

But I'm a poor *** slob.

We're going to be heading up to New England/New York City later this year, and was looking to fly Allegiant out of Knoxville.

Well, looks like Allegiant pilots maybe going on strike, and there was a recent news story about safety concerns with the airline.

Was wondering if any of you veteran flyers have had any dealings with Allegiant.

Flew into Punta Gorda. It’s cheap, but crew was nice. No free food and a little extra $$$ per 40 lbs of checked luggage. As far as carryon, if you can fit it under the seat—it’s free. You get what you pay for as far as amenities—but otherwise no complaints.

I will say, Allegiant seems to fly their jets like Navy pilots. They always seem to bank sharpest on approach w full thrusters. No biggie from inside the cabin. It’s noticeable. Fly cheap. Enjoy.

Used Allegiant 2 weeks ago between Louisville and Orlando.

No issues or delays and the flight crew was nice. I'd fly them again.

The way I see it..decent plane, but short trip. People understandably want to save and a cool crew. Be nice to them—they’ll be extra nice to you.

I’ve flown them a few times. Never had any problems. It is cheap but compare prices.

The fares can be cheaper but by the time you choose a seat, add luggage, etc it can become a negligible price difference between allegiant and other carriers.

I flew them a few weeks ago, Cedar Rapids to St. Pete. Even with all the fees it was cheaper than the main 3 carriers.

Our plane was a newer Airbus model. I think the problems are on the older DC10s.

It’s utility grade, but cheap and direct.

My in-laws use Allegiant several times a year to go to Florida and I've never heard them complain and any of the trips.

It’s been said, but the crews on Allegiant are super, super cool. My last Allegiant flight, the pilot blew me.

I have multiple UPS pilots as clients. I had many of them tell me years ago that Allegiant is the next plane crash waiting to happen. Would not put their family on one.

Tell your UPS pilot friends to get their house in order before going after another airline. If these planes were full of people instead of boxes, there would have been around 500 people killed.

Have a friend who is a private pilot. He warned me about Allegiant 2 years ago. Cited safety issues with planes and totally inexperienced pilots. Have not and will not fly them.

Everything in life is a gamble. To figure out if this is worth it here is the math:

If ($value of your life)*(probability of dying on Allegiant - probability of dying on alternate carrier) is less than (price of alternate carrier - price of Allegiant) then you’re good to go.

Yes I am an actuary.

I'd 100% drive somewhere before considering Allegiant. Not only do they have more emergency landings than the larger carriers if there is a problem the delays are much worse as they have less flights and a smaller fleet so they aren't as flexible when issues pop up.

Delta>Southwest>>>everyone else>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Allegiant.

I have flown Allegiant numerous times to Florida and back.....flying back to Ky tomorrow. Allegiant is upgrading all their planes with new A320's. Most of their planes are older used MD80's.

All the flights I have flown in the last year to Florida have been all new planes. The timeline is to have all Airbus planes by 2019. Never had an issue with Allegiant. Very good for short flights......so far.

(Oh.....just to clarify. My private jet is in the shop.) . :)

MD80's are a wonderful aircraft in my opinion. Quiet, comfortable (wider seats than a 737). But then again, they're old as dirt.

I'm an avid Allegiant flyer. My wife, child and I live in the Baltimore area and my parents are in Hilton Head and they have a weekly route between Savannah and Baltimore that we use often. Just know up front that you pay for everything (picking of seat, putting back in the storage compartment, soda, etc. If you know that going in, you should be good and can still get a cheap flight. The 3 of us are flying down to Savannah in a few weeks and got 3 round trip tickets for $450/total after paying for checked bags, seats, etc. As a poster above mentioned, the only issue is that they run so infrequently in most areas, that if the flight is cancelled for some reason, it could mean a couple days delay potentially. I haven't had that issue yet.

I am currently Diamond status on Delta and 1K on United. United has been stepping up their game lately. Two nights ago, I was bumped up to first class just before my flight. An issue occurred with the aircraft, and they had to do a plane change, which bumped me back down to coach. Rather than arguing, I just went back to my seat in the back. Before takeoff the gate agent came down and gave me a $500 voucher for being bumped to coach. Other than international, I'll take a $500 voucher as opposed to flying first any freaking day of the week.

If you’re going to be in the air for more than an hour, pay more and be comfortable is my opinion. Given, I don’t have kids and this don’t have to worry about paying for more than he two of us.

I'm only Platinum with Delta, but over the last 4-5 years they've really increased their customer service IMO. I'd say 90% of my flights are an hour and a half or less so the upgrades to First Class aren't as important to me, but their responsiveness when something does go wrong is a big plus.

And while I likely won't fly on one anytime soon I like that stuck with the 3-3-3 configuration for the 777 upgrades. Just shows that they at least somewhat care about passenger comfort whereas every other airline is adding seats and rows during remodels at our expense.

I only have it because of MQM bonuses for hitting certain spends with the Delta AMEX. I fly enough for Gold status but the card puts me into Platinum.

Heard good and bad things about Allegiant. Never flown with them however.

Flew allegient last week, Knoxville to Punta Gorda. The planes seemed newer (A320 or something). Cheap, quick, no frills, yes to all the hard banking. They’re upgrading their fleet so hopefully less scary. MIL lives in south central Florida so it’s a good option for us.

I think Allegiant puts newer equipment in Knox, it must be one of their top origination markets. They seem to be adding new routes from here every few months and announced a couple weeks ago they are investing $50M to their operations and aircraft here.

I like Frontier out of here but their return timetables are jacked. Going to Seattle next month and flying out of Nashville on Alaska Air (Premier Upgrade of course) since they have a direct flight. Rather sit 2.5hrs in my truck to Nashville than the 4 extra hours and hassle a connecting flight adds.
