Pope knows the severe hate and jealousy UL has for UK. His cover as the nicest coach in the country can certainly help on things like this. Just said this week he wants UK to dominate in everything. The best players, the best teams, winning every game and multiple championships along the way. Hopefully his work ethic gets him there.

I ´ m pretty sure the poster was being sarcastic making light that he played for Pope at BYU. Not sure why he would have any issue if he sit out all of last season. And not sure why it was not brought up during this entire year. But with the NCAA who knows.

Exactly why is he not eligible?

He has played 3 years. So it's not like they're asking for a 4th year of play. Didn't he redshirt last year? Are they denying the redshirt? If so why?

Sorry, so many questions. It's actually a pretty interesting situation. I feel bad for the kid if he doesn't get to play. Especially after waiting a year. On the flip side, if it's going to happen to a team/fanbase, I'm glad it's Louisville.

I know he was technically "rehabbing" from an injury, but I didn't think it was necessarily a season ending type injury (could be wrong about that) Could there maybe have been more behind the reason he redshirted last year than an injury and it's carrying over into this season?

So it's become a really interesting rabbit hole.

I'm enough of a computer/internet nerd that I'm pretty good at finding answers to questions. What I can't find: What was the knee injury? What surgery did he have?

I can find a 24/7 Article stating he had a scope. The doctors recommend knee surgery, and the surgery has a long recovery. That's all from Khalifa himself. The aritcle was from April of 2024.

There's a Tweet that is cited on a Louisville message board of Khalifa in a hospital gown and on a surgical stretcher style bed that people took to mean he had surgery The Tweet is from July 2024.

I guess the question at hand: Was the surgery something that required 12 months of rehab? Or did Louisville decide to play games with it. They told the kid what to say. And the NCAA is calling ********.

It's not a rumor anymore. There was an announcement a little bit ago. He's ineligible, but UofL thinks he has a good chance on appeal.

It’s an interesting argument. He could practice in January so why not allow him to play? I predict much laughing at lil bro in the near future.

I came out of zoo Atlanta one year to a lady yelling something like crazy. I had on UK pullover. I turn around she’s still yelling something and throws up the L’s down. I immediately throw up double birds and yelled loser and carried on

I'm going to do the crazy thing, and give the NCAA the benefit of the doubt. They hand these extra years out like candy. Why deny this one?

They have to feel like they have a compelling reason to deny.

Again, there's no information on what the knee injury or surgery was. That seems sketchy for a surgery that puts you out the entire year. We always seem to know if a guy has ACL/Achilles/etc surgery. No word on the Khalifa thing.

Also, unlike Jelavic, Sananda Fru has yet to sign with UL according to the UL site above so that is pretty damning for their frontcourt depth, if neither is able to play.

Kasean Pryor also has to get a medical redshirt 'waiver' as he burned his redshirt in 22/23

(They are likely to get Vangelis Zougris from Greece though)

Pretty stupid argument by the NCAA. He didn't play 4 years, so let him have his last year. Who gives a rats *** if he practiced or not.

UL will eventually threaten suit and the NCAA will have no choice but to cave. They are a couple of court decisions away from not existing anyway.
He already took a redshirt year when he was at Charlotte. So he’s actually already been a college basketball player for 5 full years now.

You don’t get to just keep sitting out year after year. You only get one automatic redshirt season. You can only get a second one if the NCAA grants a medical waiver for a legit injury. The NCAA is well within bounds denying this waiver if it turns out he was able to play this season but simply choosing not to.

Right.

It's sounding more and more like he could have returned, and opted not to. To work on conditioning and such. And all that's great. But if he didn't have to miss all that time...they're trying to take advantage of the situation.

When did he allegedly play this 4th year?

Nobody ever claimed he played a fourth season. That’s NOT the issue. This year still counts against his eligibility under the rules if he: 1) could have played the requisite number of games but simply chose not to; and 2) has already used up his guaranteed redshirt season and five year clock.

I highly doubt at his age he sat out a season just because. Clearly there was an injury. IIRC, he was even injured while playing thru it in Pope's last season at BYU.

Guarantee he ends up getting the waiver.
Whether he actually had a season-ending injury is presumably what the appeal will hinge on. And UL may very well win it, given how easily the NCAA has been caving on eligibility disputes in recent years.

But UL’s gonna have some explaining to do if it’s true that he was practicing and scrimmaging since early January. It’s generally presumed that players who can practice can play …unless they choose not to (see Shaedon Sharpe).

The Cards fanbase is delusional about this. If UK was behind it-they'd be appealing to give him 3 more years at Louisville and then ability to schedule Louisville for the entire non conference to rack up wins as long as he plays.

He's a nice passer. If that's enough to ignore the rest of the liabilities he brings to a team-then you have your guy. Enjoy. Looking forward to watching him in pick and roll defense and hugged up on when he's trying to do his thing. Rim run-and you will have more dunks than the layup line.
