Anyone have opinions about either? Or echo dot? Actually use it?

Read plenty of reviews but not sure about either, and if I'll even use either.

Figured I'd go ahead and post this before Chase does anyway.

Never heard of either. Probably just more useless, over-priced, junk that only idiots buy.

Those would be must haves if your home is full of technology. You can use the Echo to control most things on your wi-fi network. Like if you have your lights, thermostat, sprinkler system, and probably a whole lot more connected to it. I'm sure the Google Home device does the same stuff, but it likely won't restrict you to mostly using Amazon with it. I'd get one if I had a lot of wi-fi devices on my network. Heck I might grab one of those and a few of those Cree bulbs so I can be lazy and turn the lights off and on while sitting on the couch or laying in bed.

I ordered an Echo Dot on Friday and it'll be here this morning.

For $40 it seems like a no-brainer to mess around with as a stopgap device while I wait for Apple's Siri speaker to hit the market.

I want to primarily use it through my soundbar, but also have some extra Bluetooth speakers to try with it.

I have an ecobee smart thermostat, but the only really cool part about that is adjusting it from your phone in bed, IMO.

The best part about these devices is getting to explain to your wife why your house needs a slew of $45 light bulbs, IMO. Hint: Start with the kid's room.
