Has anyone noticed that Amazon is now using a bunch of independent contractors to deliver packages in some cities like Louisville. It is an attempt to cut out UPS in order to save money which I understand. However, some of these unregulated independent contractors (Amazon Flex Drivers) are pretty sketchy and unprofessional. They don't wear uniforms and often drive old beaters. Has anyone else had any positive or negative experience with these people.

Amazon claims that you can make $18-$25 per hour as a Flex Driver.

I thought for sure this was going to be another cord-cutting thread.

"I use NAS/AMAZONFLEX on a KODI FIRESTICK with PLEX"

Should probably be required by Amazon to have identification on the car and person but honestly that's not something that is regulated in most other services. Good idea.

Every time I've ordered something since they switched over it's been late. and now Amazon is selling special lock so that the drivers can enter your home

They're rolling out this service where they mfers come into your house and drop the package off. You just have to purchase amazon's camera and lock system, or some crap.

You don't have to purchase it. I signed up to deliver for Amazon until I realized the amount of boxes they were going to give me wouldn't fit in my car. And there was no designated area for your packages I might of ended up driving all around Jefferson County. Screw that.

I had one of these contractors drive around to the back of my house in a rusted out car, not wearing a uniform well after dark and knock on my door. I went to the door with a can of mace in hand thinking who the hell is this. I wish Amazon would have advertised the change and given me the option to pay up for UPS or whoever.

^Right. For their own safety Amazon should suggest some type of brightly colored lodo'd shirt.

I mean the USPS delivers out of rental vans all the time during holiday. They don't need to regulate it, they just need to be smart so some redneck doesn't shoot one of their peeps.

I don't know if I would even answer the door if it is a sketchy looking vehicle and person making a delivery. If you have seen the movie Man of the House with Tommy Lee Jones and the way he handled the pizza delivery is what you will start seeing happen. "Place the package down. Take a couple steps back. Put your hands in the air." Then proceed to come out with gun drawn.

Then you will start seeing stupid stuff like this showing up.

So, Amazon is using randoms to deliver **** to people?

Sounds safer than getting late night drunk rides home from randoms, as long as they're decently smart about it and have a basic non ****** car/person policy and rating system. Basically, copy what Uber/Lyft does with their vetting system, have them meet some rep from Amazon before they get 'harred' to make sure they're not some crackhead, and everything will be fine.

I do think they should give these people some magnet to put on the car or something so people know(or they could just tell you what kind of car it is and have a photo of them like Uber/Lyft).

Amazon needs to realize that UPS helped make Amazon. UPS already understands Amazon's importance to their existence. What a dick Bezos is.

Been trying to reduce Amazon use since this summer and have been somewhat successful. Have cut the number of orders in the past 6 months by nearly half. I use their site to shop and get info, then I find the products somewhere else to buy them.

The hard part for me is records. With Prime, you really can't beat their prices and their shipping system for vinyl is really good and really fast. ********.

We all need an Amazon locker out by our driveway. Kind of like a mailbox, but bigger, which locks electronically and Amazon can unlock and drop something in and then we can unlock with our phone.

Patent that idea and then sell it.

I just recently learned that some local stores have Amazon storage lockers. A friend of ours had a 50# bag of dog food stolen off her porch. She learned about the storage lockers at Whole Foods and told us. Pretty good idea.

That’s a Whole Foods thing, because Amazon now owns Whole Foods. Who steals dog food?

You must live in a neighborhood where it is normal for people to drive around to the back of your home well after dark in some rusted out beater dressed like a bum. That is very suspicious where I live.

Some great brainstorming in this thread that I’m sure those dopes at Amazon have never considered. Hopefully, somebody at Amazon can get these ideas to Bezos, the richest man in the world, before he drops the ball.

Amazon will cut out UPS as soon as possible, they are a complete middleman at this point.Amazon just has to build-out its delivery network.

These human drivers are just a stop-gap technology before the self driving/drone transport takes over. Same thing for human Uber/Lyft drivers. They are planning for post-human drivers as the endgame. This is all just treading water.

It would be very suspicious for someone to come to my back door at night. I would not want my wife to answer the door with a can of mace, much less answer the door. She knows where the gun is.

I just assumed you were a female with the mace comment...with your response I guess I am wrong.....

Not female (sorry I thought you were trying to be funny). Guns are nearby in my house. I prefer to go with non-lethal force unless an actual break-in occurs. I don't want to end up in jail for shooting/stabbing someone who is trying to steal something out of my garage or back porch. Castle laws won't really protect you in that case and you are always subject to a civil suit. I was put in that position once (caught a thief stealing stuff outside my home) and that is why I bought the pepper spray.

I think this is a precursor to Amazon establishing their own fleet of delivery vehicles. Add to that when fully autonomous driving becomes mainstream in the next 5 years their cost of delivery will be little more than the price of fuel.

No wonder their stock keeps rocking.
