Anyone have any good recommendations? Been listening to newest Jason Isbell. Lots of other great stuff out there, just curious if anyone has any other artists i'm not familiar with.

Not exactly sure what you're looking for with Americana because it seems pretty broad, but I'm really enjoying the new Jason Isbell album. Also been listening to Sturgill Simpson, Alabama Shakes, and Gaslight Anthem.

Sturgill Simpson, get his album Metamodern Sounds in Country Music. Some of the best music out right now and he's from Kentucky. The lead guitarist is a beast. Also anything Gram Parsons (Flying Burrito Brothers) was involved in is the essential Americana music.

I'll add Josh Ritter and Justin Townes Earle. The Milk Carton Kids are more folk in the vain of Simon and Garfunkel but you'll probably dig them. Their songs Michigan and Memphis are both top both.

Jason Isbell is a very underrated guitar player; check out the "Music of Lynyrd Skynyrd (IIRC)" DVD.

He kills "I Know a Little".

Lucero's older stuff is some of my favorite music ever.

"The War" gives me goosebumps every time, and really sums up what life might have been like if you were drafted into WWII.

Dwight Yoakam's acoustic album is money.

Chris Stapleton's entire Traveller album is awesome.

^ Ben Nichols (Lucero) did the main song for his filmmaker brother's film Take Shelter. Love this song.

yeah, I've tried to like his new album, but just could not get into it. It's a little too radio friendly country for my tastes, i think.

I had to give it a few tries before I really started to like it.

I think his cover of "Tennessee Whiskey" is better than DAC's, and that's saying something for me.

"Daddy doesn't pray anymore" is a pretty damn powerful song too.

Just digesting the newest Jason Isbell. That guy is on a freakin' roll. I was still listening to "Southeastern" about once a week. He is on a level with John Prine, Guy Clark, Steve Earle and very few others (no one else is on Bob Dylan's level) in terms of songwriting.

"So, I keep on showin' up
Hell bent on growin' up
If it takes a lifetime"

I'll add James McMurtry to list above.

Jason Isbell is going to be at Rupp Arena on October 1st. Only problem is he is opening for the Avett Brothers who I don't particularly like. I don't imagine I'll be paying a big ticket price to see Isbell play for 20 minutes and then watch a band I don't like.
