I hear rumblings of good news on Amile. Maybe he'll be back sooner than we thought. God that would be awesome.

I'm good with whenever as long as he doesn't rush. Would love him to come back sooner than later, as we are not the same team without him. But we'll survive. ACC schedule with or without him will be a brutal grind this year.

I know nothing on the time frame, just heard some folks mentioning it's going better than was expected . I did see at another board someone mentioning one doctor was already ready to release him. I hope that's true.

This is good news! We need him back in game shape to be ready for a run in March!

I wouldn't jump to any rumor at this particular time. I'd again caution everyone to not get their hopes up. Timeline is at BEST mid feb, hopefully that is the case but we'll see if things change.

timo, I am not sure I agree with that time line (mid feb) but I echo the rest of your comments.

I think that is on the long end of things Mark. Though there is nothing concrete to suggest much right now and it could very well go to mid February and beyond. I guess they have to see how he does when they look at his foot again.

Thanks for clarifying. Much appreciated. Just an all around shame for Amile. He's done absolutely everything the staff has asked him to do these past few years. Such a shame to see him go down when it was finally his turn to have a large share of the spotlight.

I agree Mark. Amile was so huge last year and this year. He is still a big part of the team though, even though he isn't able to lace em up. Helping the young guys every day is big. Especially for guys like Chase, Vrank, Obi and Justin Robinson. To a lesser extent DT, being he is a guard.

Really hoping it is sooner and he can get back into shape for a stretch run. I don't think there will be any issues reintegrating him into the offense but getting him back sooner rather than later only helps. I love Amile and will hate to see him go. I remember when he committed, I wasn't very high on him. He was ranked highly but I just didn't like his game from what I had seen of it. I couldn't have been more wrong. He brings it every night and just has a knack for doing little things that help a team win. Every team needs an Amile.

Yea, I've got a lot of heart invested in Amile , he's one good dude. I love that kid.

Materially invested? Given up something for him?

Or just rooting big time for him like every other Duke fan who appreciates his integrity?

And, will that "investment" bring him back sooner than reality of the injury entalis? Or is that wishful thinking?

He will need to come back strong for Duke's chances. And, I hope he does for the sake of his own final season at Duke. His fundamentals and leadership are key to our chances moving forward. But, he has to be at the top of his game come mid February so we can win some big games.

I have no idea what Amile wants but if it is mid February imo he should redshirt. I just don't think he would be effective after missing that much time.Again this of course depends on how he feels about redshirting

Even if he returns mid February, it will possibly too late for it to matter.
I think I'll go eat some worms.

K needs to arrange a mid-year team-bonding retreat on an Army rocket where Amile goes outside Earth's orbit for like, 8 minutes. When he comes back, he'll be totally healed and in game shape. He'll be 38 years old, but that rebounding, tho...

Take it with a grain of salt but I read on another Duke forum that "there are rumblings that Amile may give the foot a try in practice soon" and a "loosely bandied return date of Feb 6" (paraphrasing)

If Amile makes it back it looks like it'll be late in the season. I hope he makes it back, but we can't count on it. Have to play the cards we're dealt.

One thing they I noticed about Amile today, even though he was just standing around whenever we made a big play, he seemed to be moving without any noticeable limp. I know that probably doesn't really mean anything but it's just something that I noticed.

Duke's Amile Jefferson still out "a while" after discarding boot
  • By Bret Strelow, Staff writer
RALEIGH - Duke senior Amile Jefferson had his injured right foot in a customized shoe instead of a walking boot Saturday.

He's still not close to being back in the Blue Devils' lineup.

Duke played its 11th straight game without Jefferson, improving to 7-4 in that stretch thanks to an 88-78 win at N.C. State. He suffered a foot fracture Dec. 12, and there's still no timetable for his return, coach Mike Krzyzewski said.

"He'll have some (supportive) stuff in his shoe, but we're trying to get him now to walk properly, and he's doing stuff in the pool," Krzyzewski said. "The bone has healed pretty well, but he's not there. I still think it's a while, but it is good to see him not in that damn boot or on crutches. For him, he's dying, really. He wants to play so badly."

I'm taking my wife to her first Duke game on 2/13 vs Virginia. We're flying in on the 11th and staying until Sunday evening the 14th. It's a surprise for her so can't wait to tell her next weekend. May even buy some cheap tickets in Chapel Thrill to cheer on Pitt on the 14th since our flight doesn't leave until late.

I'm holding out hope Amile may be back by then.

That said, it's also the first time I'll be at Cameron since 2006....J.J.'s senior season.

Awesome DJ, y'all will have a blast. Sounds like your last trip was before the facelift, with the painted seats, sideline LCD and all that.
