Hey all,

Thought I would bring up Amile's quest to be the all-time highest shooting percentage player in Duke history.

So, #1 on the list is the Alaskan grizzly, Carlos Boozer, who shot the ball at a 63.1% career clip, good for eighth all time since 93, and best ever at Duke. By year, he shot 61, 60, and 67%, from his freshman to junior year.

Amile is currently shooting at 62.8% over his career, so 3/10 of a percentage point lower. By year, he has shot 54%, 64%, 63%, 68% (half a year) and is currently shooting 65%.

It does seem likely, if he continues shooting as he is now, that he should make it... but he missed a few chippies in the last few games, each of which made me cringe!

But should Amile make it, that is pretty incredible. Factor in that he might end up as the most prolific offensive rebounder in Duke history (or, more likely, one of the top three or so) and I can't help but think that Amile "Double Take" Jefferson might be one of the better, and most underrated, fours we've ever had.

I'm assuming we're talking Duke graduates or 50 game minimum since Jah finished at 66.4% from the floor. Amile won't get in the rafters, right? He would need DPOY honors or All-American?

Say what you will about Carolina, but I do like how much recognition their tiered system allows. Yeah, its a bit much, but it is still nice... guys like Jon Scheyer and Nolan Smith and Kyle Singler are huge parts of our program and history, you know?

UCLA doesn't put banners up for anything but national championships. Think how those players feel.

I'm pulling for him, but I'll take the under for a couple reasons: increased use and increased range.

Some of our greatest shooting %s have been from the guy who got loose for a couple gimmes b/c the defense didn't prioritize him, the 4th or 5th option. That's largely been Amile's role until his shortened season last year. He's now a more formidable scoring threat and is likely to get more defensive attention. (And still the 4th or 5th option sometimes. Wow!)

He has the freedom to create a bit more on offense, which means he's not just catching it within 4 feet of the basket and laying it in or dunking it. He's taking lower percentage shots with increased defensive intensity.

Of course, even as I'm typing this, I see his % has risen to 67%! This is an occasion where I'd love to be wrong.

Yeah, this year has been great, even with increased usage.

BTW, for a career he is now at 342-541, good for 63.2%, so Amile is BARELY in the lead.
He is averaging about 9 shots a game. If he makes 6 of them, he will break the record. So, now I get to be nervous every time he shoots!:)
