With all the talk from Pope about analytics, could this be actually detrimental to play....?

Is it getting in the guys' heads that they're too concerned about what their analytics will look like after the game the next day...?

Just a thought...because as a golf coach, this is a huge issue with many players

I think it largely depends on the player. By and large I’d say emphatically no! Most players are going to want to shoot threes, dunks and layups already. I will note that some players can be good in those other areas that analytics is going to point you away from. For example, if you have excellent post skills as a guard or if you are a mid range king like a KD, the analytics principles in Pope’s offense aren’t built around your skillset. I just don’t think those are the kind of players we have on this roster. In short, no.

I wonder if seemingly trying to play MD as a stretch four is hurting both him and the team ??

I think if you asked a player that question they are going to say ‘Ana-what?’

Coaches on the other hand will be driven by it. Just look at baseball. Managers are eat up with it

I can imagine it drives some golfers crazy. Those people live in their heads. They spend over 2 hours wandering or riding around and rough 150 seconds actually executing their play.

I think analytics are a net positive, and I want a coach that embraces them.

Nate Oats FREQUENTLY talks about analytics. Alabama went to the Final 4 in 2024. Alabama was one of the best teams last year, went to the Elite 8 as a 2 seed before losing to 1 seed Duke.

I don't know that analytics affects thinking anymore than kids already worry about "If I miss too many of these open shots, he's not going to keep playing me."

Play your game, the analytics take care of themselves. But by no means should we act like the old guard and scoff at it for fear the kids psyche can't handle it.

As a Statistician, very few think about statistics and analytics as much as I do/did. And no, most athletes aren't thinking about that when they are playing. The coaches, yes, the players, no.

Possibly, but why are we still handling these young men with kid gloves? Do we really need to be that sensitive to their psyche? You’re getting paid hundreds of thousands if not millions of dollars now. Figure it out.
Absolutely. The time for gentle constructive criticism has passed. These guys are making entirely too much money to be pandered to. There needs to be contracts in place where money is paid based on games played and production.

I agree, and also incentives for achievement (FF, Championship) just like coaches have.
