And the Hatred for Grayson Allen Begins.

Rolling Stone magazine (what a rag) continues the hatred war on Duke, K, Grayson Allen, and a jab at his religion. As Duke fans we've learned to expect it, and ultimately to embrace it. Here's a few paragraphs from the rag bag's article:

"Here are a couple of things I learned about Grayson Allen by perusing his bio on the Duke basketball website: He graduated *** laude (of course he did) from something called the Providence School, a place that defines itself on its own website as not just Christian, but "boldly Christian," in case you enjoy your Bible study with a side of audaciousness.

Grayson Allen is only a freshman, but I imagine Duke's 68-63 NCAA championship victory over Wisconsin on Monday night won't be the last time he annoys the hell out of a national audience, because with a name and a biography like Grayson Allen's, how can he be anything but the latest in a long line of Duke guards who appear to have been genetically engineered to get under America's skin?

I already dislike Grayson Allen (a bit player for the Blue Devils all season who put up 16 points last night), and as I write this, I've known who he is for about an hour. I already want to see him fail in some publicly humiliating fashion, merely because of the uniform he is wearing. He is every over-entitled, Izod-clad jerk I've ever come across in a bar, and I want him to spill his celebratory sparking cider

Is that overly harsh? Well, screw it. I can't help it right now, Grayson. I'm caught up in the moment. You may be a perfectly nice kid, but it's a reflexive thing at this point; I know it's cliché, but I still feel about Duke the same way I feel about watching dudes wearing Google Glass toast with shots of Fireball. There's something physically revolting about watching an otherwise brilliant Final Four - populated by a Wisconsin team that proved one of the Bill Raftery has established over the years, in working toward finally broadcasting his first-ever national championship game (at one point, I swear he worked in a reference to dietitians). It felt like getting to the end of a 700-page novel only to find out that the murderer was the one you presumed it was from page 3."

There's a lot more. Actually some of it's pretty funny...because K, Duke's players, and all their success just plain pisses them off!

I've been saying all year he will be the next "hated Duke player" he reminds me of JJ where he is going to be very good and that makes other teams and fan bases hate him. I'm not comparing to him JJ and his shooting just that how JJ was the most hated player on the court. I see that with Grayson. And I can't wait for that moment to happen, you're only hated if you're good.

If you've watched the Laettner 30 for 30, this dislike of Grayson is borderline racism. Watching a white player excel in a predominately black sport and throw in the religious factor. Players of Grayson's skin color are not supposed to be flying thru the sky. How dare he steal the position from an inner city kid who doesn't know his parents and battled gang influence. Well, Grayson must have had it easy.

Sad world we live in, too much jealousy. Can't people respect others and be proud of their accomplishments. I don't care for UNX, but I think the Paige kid is a great ball player and seems like a great person as well. Too much hate!

Most people who claim to be uNC fans are mostly haters of Duke. Hate is so strongly injected into the tar heel culture that it will never end or ease up. I grew up being a fan of Duke and unless they played Duke, I could have cared less what uNC was doing. Now because of the complete lack of common courtesy given by the vast majority of their fan base, I wish them to lose every game they play. But I refuse to put any effort into watching their games just to see them lose as they do for Duke.

Luckily, Grayson doesn't seem to give a crap about the negativity towards him. He thrives off of it because he's supremely confident. Now he has a ring to back up his swag.

That is the definition of hate.. and the author is even aware of this and still continued to publish it..

This only happens to white basketball players that don't "look" like they should be good.. Mason/Miles didn't really get it too bad because they had the stereotypical "good basketball player" build.. Grayson & JJ look like "normal" people.. So when somebody sees Grayson jump 38 inches off the court (highest vertical of anyone on the team, as stated during the game, which I'm sure didn't help his populatity) as a slightly above average height white guy, they naturally get jealous...

When Mason reverse dunka an alley.. Nobody gets mad because they have the "he's almost 7ft tall" defense.. When Grayson does it, they have to look at themselves and wonder why they couldn't jump and touch the net in their prime..

They don't realize the hard work Grayson puts in every day.

Instead of hate, use Grayson as a role model for how hard work can pay off.

I thought it was awful, un original, unecessary, in poor taste. Quite frankly embarrassing and this is even if it is meant to be many of these things. It's disgusting. That's somebody's son. Let's find this writer's son and make some conclusions about them and paint them in a less than flattering light

RS & Jann Wenner are under seige right now for that UVA article which turned out to be completely fabricated. This article is extremely unprofessional, yet if someone wrote a negative article about the author's background he'd be on Twitter accusing predjudice.

Author is Michael Weinreb who used to write for Grantland but was let go b/c Simmons felt his material was subpar. He now writes sports for RS and needs clicks. Don't read the article nor forward it to others.

Duke PR department should issue a statement & ask if Weinreb would like to visit Duke for meeting with Grayson. Highly doubt Weinreb would say this stuff to Grayson's face with all 6' 4" in front of him.

Honest question, if Allen were not white and had all the same attributes, would this article have ever been written?

Of course not.

Good to see the author is getting absolutely eviscerated in the comments section. He deserves it.

Had Duke lost the game the naysayers wouldn't mention Grayson even if the scored 25 points. Like an earlier posted said, white boys aren't supposed to be good basketball players.

That's a pretty bad article. But it's the Rolling Stone....so consider the source.

I used to try defend and get worked up against all these Duke hate articles but a few years back I realized that I now welcome the hate. I look at it as hate and love are two forms of energy but just on opposite sides of the coin. You can love Duke and feed them your energy and passion. And you can hate Duke and feed them your energy and passion... Either way Duke is the focus and on your mind.

It's day the day that the world stops hating Duke (or Duke is not in the conversation) is the day that I will start to worry. But with K still running the ship and now bringing home banner #5... Duke will be the focus (whether positive or negative) of fans who follow the game of college basketball. And I'm cool with that.

I said at the beginning of the year he was going to the next hated player at Duke. If he keeps up what he's doing then you're talking about Laettner, JJ hate. OFC

Well, when I read that quote about Calipari being the "mother of dragons," the author lost all credibility with me. First of all, the mother of dragons is named Khaleesi, and she will probably take back her rightful throne in Game of Thrones. If the author was trying to reference a bad guy, he should've picked King Joffrey Baratheon who was horrible. That being said, clearly this guy is an idiot before even mentioning Allen.

+1 but there's nothing borderline about it, it's racism plain and simple.

Wow. As the father of, for now only one child, a two year old son (yes i have pipe dreams of me watching him at cameron indoor lol cuz just like Quinn said "dreams they do come true you know") it scares me to think about what his world will look like when he is Graysons age. The world, but i primarily mean our country just seems to slide closer n closer to the crapper - which makes me want to cry because we live in the greatest country with the greatest people but that isnt projected nearly enough. As for the article, how on earth does one come by those types of feelings for a total stranger after but only half an hour? What does that say about the writer? Why must journalists and newspapers and magazines feel so passionately that negativity is what sells. From what we all know about Grayson he's an exemplary student, a classy ball player who hustles his butt off and goes after loose balls like nobody since wojo, and a gentleman. And THATS why you attack him? Why couldn't the writer have written about all those positive things? (its rhetorical, sadly im no longer that naive). I dunno the whole thing saddens me for many many reasons, one of which is that of all the things that happened over final four weekend and the author chose that to write about? Things closer to the pulse of society and differences in opinion. Instead he rehashes the same old story weve come to know as DUKE fans, only he whited out the most recent name before Graysons. -Sigh- that's all ive got for now. Pardon my ramblings.
