This is an intriguing name in the portal. Rohde is a 6’6” guard from St Thomas who averaged 17 ppg as a true freshman and earned Summit League Freshman of the Year. The NU connection is that he played this year at St Thomas with former NU walk-on Don Martinelli (brother of Nick). I’m sure Rohde will be offered by many of the big programs.

I saw that we reached out to 6’10” Jonathan Beagle from the University of Albany who won America East Freshman of the Year.

Watched some of Rohde's highlights from this past year - dude has some Kevin Coble vibes with his build and ability to score at all three levels. Given his Milwaukee ties, I'm surprised the Badgers haven't tried to keep him in state.

I broadcast the St. Thomas-Idaho State game this year and Rohde is very slick. Good passer. Not a great three-point shooter —32 percent on the season, only had one vs ISU. Kind of a skinny build. But very good handles.

Not sure if this sounds like a Big Ten player, sight unseen. How quick? He better be really really quick and able to get a lot stronger

32.0% put him sixth among volume shooters at UST, but would have placed him 3rd on NU. He also took six attempts per game.

Interesting.

I watched a couple of St. Thomas games as my sister in law has worked for the school for 15 years.

He's fearless. That's the first thing that comes to mind. One of the games I watched was when they almost upset Oral Roberts in the conference tournament. Oral Roberts is a close proxy for a B1G team. Plenty of sizer and strength. He looked the part and stood out for sure.

Unfortunately I think he will be extremely coveted. Even if we believe Rutger's Spencer had good numbers and was a bit overlooked, this dude is a freshman. His upside is higher.

He does wear purple today though.

There might be an even stronger connection between Andrew Rohde and Northwestern. I think Lydia Rohde, who played on the NU women's team from 2014 to 2018, is his sister. They both went to Brookfield Central. Her NU bio says her parents are Kevin and Sharon and she has a brother Andrew. His St. Thomas bio says his parents are Kevin and Sharon, but doesn't mention siblings. It would be a pretty big coincidence if they're not related.

Great find. Thanks for sharing.
