From Newsarama:

Warner Bros.'s upcoming animated film Batman: The Killing Joke has been rated R by the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA). Based on the 1988 graphic novel by Alan Moore and Brian Bolland, Batman: The Killing Joke will be the first DC animated film with the R-rating, but second movie overall after the extended home-video edition of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.

I'm glad they didn't make cuts to get a PG-13. From what I've read, they weren't necessarily shooting for an R, but were looking to make a faithful adaptation (they are adding a prologue since the book is so short) and the rating would be what it would be.

I recently read the comic book because of all the hype about the movie and abotu how the comic book is supposed to be like amazing writing or something. I was shocked at how awful it was. The premise of the entire story is completely flawed. And this is supposed to be one of the pinnacles of superhero comic book writing. No wonder the vast majority of the super hero movies are garbage.

One bad day can make an ordinary man insane? Really? The Joker had a whole slew of bad days that all happened because of decisions he made and led to him making the decisions that resulted in the day where he got all mangled up. If those previous days hadn't happened he wouldn't have resorted to the life of crime that resulted in him becoming the Joker. And this is supposed to be one of the best comics ever written. What a freaking disgrace.

Like one bad day when your parents are murdered and you decide to wear tights and attack criminals?

The Killing Joke is notorious because of one scene.

I saw it tonight. It's basically two separate episodes. There's a prologue with completely new material and the actual adaptation.

The prologue has some pretty controversial elements. Some people hated it. I thought it was ok. I think it could have been pretty decent with a little bit of a rework. I did not like Bruce and Barbara relationship. It doesn't really fit into the second part. It feels like it's own little thing. I'd give it a C+ to B-.

The actual adaptation is very faithful and I thought was well done. I feel like this was Hamill's best performance as the Joker. I'd give the actual adaptation an A.

Overall, probably a B to a B+ for me. I think The Dark Knight Returns is a better adaptation, but this one was pretty good.

Okay, I was looking forward to this but after seeing the spoiler from the prologue....

Eww!

Yeah, that part is a problem. What they should have done is...

Have Batman be overprotective of Barbara because she is Jim's daughter and he knows how devastating it would be if something happened to her (drives home the fear when Jim sees the photos of her, not knowing if she is dead or alive). Barbara's resentment would be from feeling like Batman is holding her back and not letting her reach her potential. I think this would have been an easy fix.

Didn't realize there was a big enough audience to warrant making a movie like this. How many adults care about a cartoon batman??

Totally agree.

For some reason, TPTB at DC like to dump on the character.

Batgirl doing Batman while both are in costume is laughable.

It seems like the only good portrayal of a female in a Batman movie is Andrea in Mask of the Phantasm.

Vicky Vale: typical damsel in distress.
Catwoman: over the top and the whole 9 lives deal was dumb as ****.
Dr whatever her name was: forgetable.
Batgirl: as awful and campy as the movie she was in.
Poison Ivy: hahahaha
Rachael Dawes: boring
Rachael Dawes 2: better but more of a device to make Two Face.
Talia: used as a plot twist that wasn't shocking and then she turns out to be a suicidal terrorist? Talia is one of the most important women in Batman's life.
Not Catwoman but is: I guess she was ok. I'll put her second behind Andrea.

Bonus Barbara on Gotham: Jesus Christ what a mess they wrote them selves into. I didn't watch season 2 because the previews for it pissed me off.
