Louisville

"This is a total rebuild. This one might be more difficult than Georgia Tech switching back from a triple (option). The good news is that Louisville seems completely aware that this is a ground-up situation and not a quick fix. They obviously really wanted Jeff Brohm, being the native son and all, but they got a 10-year guy in Scott (Satterfield). He's going to take the time we think they're giving him and build out his program. App State was a really, really well-run program. They found their guys, built them up and dominated with their culture. It's a long road to doing that here."

"The worst of it might not even be done yet. Bobby Petrino leaving a program hits you in waves; first they quit on him, then you have to run off a bunch of them. They'll probably have guys leave over the course of the summer and fall."

"They do have some guys at running back, so they’ll use that and keep it on the ground more than Petrino ever did."

"Expect a total change with the offensive personnel. The QB they got from this signing class (Evan Conley) will probably end up as their guy, maybe not at first but maybe by the end of the year. They're going to take their lumps with him now, which makes sense."

"Kentucky has been beating them for some guys they never would have when Charlie Strong was there. They need to reinvest in recruiting their part of the state and lock in on Florida and those other places."

"I don’t think the previous staff did any recruiting the last year or so."

As Johnie U. was known to say..."Talk is cheap....let's play the game". then we will see what they are made of...both teams.

Coaches can and will say anything when they are anonymous. Go figure.

Athlon does this every year, btw. Not just for the ACC, either. I believe the coaches comments. I don’t think they know a whole lot about the program in its current form, other than the obvious.

lazy take,
As far as I’ve heard from many different people Conley isn’t going to be a option at all this yr. He’s legitimately 3rd string QB.

There's talent on this team. Good team speed. Deph might be a problem in a few spots but i think we will be competitive in all the games. I can see 4 or 5 wins and hopefully beat Ky for a bowl game.

Depth IS the main issue. The talent is there but the depth is not especially on offense. The defense seems to be much deeper than the offense, so we'll rely on the defense and ball control on offense by keeping the ball on the ground when possible.

3 to 5 wins is all I see, but I'm no expert. Hopefully the lack of depth is overcome and this team shocks the college football world. That would be awesome!! Might as well start the shock with a big win over the Irish!

Go CARDS!!!

I hope those guys are wrong about the long rebuild but it sounds about right. That's what we're used to seeing from Petrino's teams when he leaves. I hope Satterfield can find a way to shorten it.

It's interesting that at least one of our rival coaches expects us to switch to a run oriented game. I haven't seen much discussion about our running game during the off-season. It seems unlikely we'll get much of a running game going if the reports about our O-line are correct, but I'll keep my fingers crossed.

Hmmmmmmm, I’m thinking that anonymous comments are worth just about what being anonymous is. Nothing.

GO CARDS - BEAT EVERYBODY!!! God Bless America!!!
Kind of like the anonymous NFL GM last year that said that the Cleveland Browns would really hit rock bottom after they fired Hue Jackson and Todd Haley mid season. They then went 5-2 and missed the playoffs by 1 game.

My bet is that was either Dave Doeren of NC State or Dave Clawson of Wake Forest flapping their gums.

Think the running game will be strong early and falter as the O-linemen start getting hurt. Maybe they won't get hurt. That's the best we can hope for.
