I don't pay a whole lot of attention to pro sports these days but I was perusing threads on one of the Bengals sites and noticed a thread about predictions for Super Bowl 50. Super Bowl 50?!? I'm not sure if I watched the first two Super Bowls but I do know I watched #3 where Joe Willy and the Jets shocked the football world in beating the Colts. Now we're looking at Superbowl #50. Where has the time gone?

That was 1969. To me 1969 was a very interesting year in the world of pro sports. The aforementioned Jets over the Baltimore Colts, the New York Mets over the Baltimore Orioles in the World Series and the New York Knicks over the Baltimore Bullets in the NBA. Just how many years has a team from one city defeated a team from another (same) city in all three major US pro sports? Only time I can remember. (New York over Baltimore)

1969 was a really good year. That was the summer I spent with my brother up in Michigan. Had a major crush on the blonde who worked in the little store down the road. Loads of fishing in the Lake and a nearby canal. Sneaking most of a fifth of Seagram's in the kitchen of my sister-in-law's party.... Over all 1969 was a heck of a year. Almost a half century ago now. Funny, the mirror tells me a different story but I feel exactly the same on the inside now.

I remember 1969 fondly. Especially the summer. That was the year I got my first real 6 string. Bought it at the 5 and Dime. I played it til my fingers bled. That was in the summer of 69. Me and some guys from school had a band and we tried real hard. Jimmy quit and Jody got married. Should've known we never get far. When I look back now that summer seemed to last forever. And if I had a choice I'd always wanna be there.

Those were the best days of my life.

*edit* Oh and I just remembered, that was the summer that I first 69'd.

These words are a good foundation for a country ballad. Key of C.

I wasn't around for the original Woodstock, but I remember watching MTV put on a Woodstock 25-year anniversary music festival. Unbelievably, if you were 20-years old when they did that, you're now 41.

I remember that World Series, but I remember most the '70 WS (Reds vs Orioles) when Dave McNally of the Orioles hit that grand slam. Never forgot it. My friend's grandpa said, "There's a grand slam by a pitcher, boys".

Was that the W/S where Boog Powell hit one out with one hand? Pitch fooled him so bad he could not keep both hands on the bat and still deposited the ball fairly deep in the right field seats if I recall correctly. And, let me tell you right now, My "recalls" are sometimes completely wrong and that is getting worse.

Must have been fun times back here. My memories of '69 were more of a young Johnson county lad landing in Cam Rohn Bay, Viet Nam and learning that it was not "de plane" to fanticy island.
