I guess this name change to address historic misdeeds is really gaining momentum. Here's one that actually makes sense.
DALLAS (AP) Citing more than three dozen serious acts of violence against women by current and former NFL players, hundreds of arrests for gun and drug crimes, and a pattern of what it called "unpatriotic behavior" a group that traces its heritage to American cowboys demanded the NFL team in this city change its name.
"We want our children to be proud of the legacy of the American Cowboy," said Delbert Neukirk, chairman of the American Cowboy History Association. "The players and culture of the NFL stain that legacy."
Neukirk, who said his great grandfather took part in several cattle drives in the 1880s, cited a data base compiled by USA Today that showed nearly a thousand crimes committed by NFL players in the past 20 years, many for assault and battery on women. "The American cowboy deserves a better role model than the NFL," he said.
Cowboys owner Jerry Jones did not immediately comment on the demand.
