I think that's way high for not knowing what these guys will be like before the season even gets started. Hopefully, they will be that good but way too early to have them picked that high imo.

Ya UL loaded up fairly well. But so did a lot of teams, and most schools will add more players.
Polls shouldn't come out till January at least. Those writers got to do something to try and keep relevant.

Arkansas lost more talent than they are returning. They were 1 loss away from missing the NCAA tournament last season, how could anyone think they will be a ranked team?

Not really, got like 45% of the scoring returning. Didn't do the exact math.
Picked up Acuff just was named MVP in the Iverson classic and won the 1 on 1 title.
Thomas #2 at OG position
Sealy SF more of a project was like 13th at his position if I remember right.
2 bigs with experience. Pringle SC and Ewin FSU
One of 3 schools still in play for JJ Andrews (announcing May 15th)

Supposed to still have the Ament money left to pick up one more when they drop out of the NBA draft. I can't say that for sure just rumors and nobody will ever know.

We reloaded already.

EDIT Todays ball is nothing like the old days, you can loose everybody and if you got the money just reload.

Especially with Cal as your coach. It’s easy to come in and play when you have few sets to learn. Cal has designed his offense to be easy to pick up in less than a year, because he has relied so heavily on OAD Freshmen over the years. Defense is the same way, everyone should be able to play man to man and switch. And when you have elite athletes, teaching them to play defense with intensity isn’t that hard.

It works really well as long you have elite athletes and you don’t run into a well disciplined/well coached team that can scout you and is smart enough to know your very limited amount of sets.

I think in a way it benefited Arkansas to be a lower seed in this past tourney. Cal didn’t have to worry about an up and coming new coach or a disciplined/veteran team that can shoot the lights out like he did the last few years at UK when he had to deal with teams like St. Peter’s and Oakland. He drew a dysfunctional KU team and an overrated St. John’s team with a coach that he had coached against several times over the years and pretty much owned.

And defensively, when you switch all the time, teams just have to be patient and wait for the mismatches. Those mid to low major conference teams understand that and will slow it down and run offense and wait for the right guys to get the ball.

Cal might be playing checkers while everyone else is playing chess, but if you have the right pieces, it doesn’t matter, you can still win with overwhelming talent.

That’s what UK fans counted on for years and now it’s what Arkansas fans have to hope for.

Its a preseason poll in the portal era. What teams are you confidently picking ahead of us? Everyone is bringing in a ton of new dudes.

Agree I think he has changed a bit keeping players. But in no way is he a good X&O's guy. Would like to see him hire somebody to do that.
The D last year was really good. We were also down to like 6.5 players part of the season, not even enough to scrimmage.

I have never liked him and never will but I have no control over that.

Right preseason. You could probably put about 20 schools in a hat and draw them out and be just as close.

Their portal additions are very weak. Arkansas fans have bought into Freshmen recruitment rankings as they like to spout those numbers.
Cal is paying his penance in Fayetteville for not winning at Kentucky and it’s almost sad to see their fan base duped liked that.

Not sure about him changing.

He had six Seniors return including the NPOTY Tshiebwe in 22-23.

He had a fifth year Senior Reeves, Theiro, as well as a few others back in 23-24.

It’s a bit of a misnomer that Cal has always relied on Freshmen. He has to a large extent, but he has from time to time had veteran teams, and yet hasn’t made it to the Elite Eight since 2019 or the Final Four since 2015.

Maybe at Arkansas he can make some deep runs. He definitely has the talent to do so.

I know your a bad hater and like to give out the wrong information because of your hate.
Duped like what 1 shot away from another E8 would of been or 3rd in 5 years.

EDIT Now you can say well Cal chocked, but he was not the one shooting the ball. Had a good look at the basket to win in regulation and in OT.

And yet, Arkansas beat us at Rupp. It is easy to dupe any fan base when you actually win big games . Arkansas got as far as we did last season so hate on Cal all you want but the team results were as good as ours. They will have a better team this year imo. I think we may have a better team as well. It will be fun.

I think this board has been pretty consistent saying that Arkansas took a step back from Muss to Cal. Cal didn't miss the shot but he is the one that steers the ship on these terrible losses. He never missed a shot for UK against Evansville, St. Peters or Oakland but he was guilty of coaching malfeasance in all those games. Arkansas will win some big games with Cal. It wouldn't surprise me if he owns Pope but it will be all fools gold. He will fold like a cheap suit when it matters.

No one will own Mark Pope, he’s building a championship roster. Arkansas wins over UK are going to be rare happenings going forward.

Have you heard, “ you don’t have to make them all but you can’t miss them all”?

He called the last shot for DJ didn't he?
Just like he did here when Sheppard had 22 in 2nd half.
(Was that Miss St.?)
He also owned Pitiner.
Weird, I know.

It won't be long.
Hope springs eternal, after all.
I don't think they are any bluebloods anymore, I's just about the $$$$ now.
AR is a all around sports school. That's how we got into the SEC.
AR is 17th on the all time nation champion ship winners list (all sports)
KY is not in the top 50 so no need to look it up.
Only 2 SEC schools have better both new TX & OK.

What fans of schools that aren't now, and will never be, a Blue Blood in ANY sport tell themselves.

Trust me. There are Blue Bloods. Kentucky is the GOAT in college basketball, and there are three or four more that qualify as definite Blue Bloods. There are probably as many as 8 or 9 in college football. Watch any game between two of them and the announcers will quickly acknowledge it.

When you are number one or number two historically in just about every category that any one cares to talk about, it kind of makes you the GOAT.

Argue it if you want, but it won’t change the facts.

“Their portal additions are weak” yet this board claims that Thiero and Big Z are big losses when Ewin and Pringle had comparable/better stats than both respectively last year

Lots of things make us the GOAT, sir. Too many to list here, although it has been done (search out “the list” thread if you want)

But the most telling stat of all, to me, has always been that Kentucky has had FIVE different coaches win the NCAA tournament. And if Mark Pope manages to do it, that’ll make six. Only 3 other schools (Kansas, UNC, UConn) even have three. That speaks to the consistency over decades and decades. Over an 85-year period, really.

Why are you, an Arkansas fan, showing up on a Kentucky board to tell us how our program isn’t great? Your school has one title and your cute little chart that shows UCLA and Kentucky doesn’t have the pigpen anywhere in it. Why don’t the Arkansas fans go back to the Arkansas board if they aren’t here to be respectful to the program this forum supports? I don’t generally have a problem with your posts, but you’re not in a position to tell Kentucky fans where Kentucky is in the pantheon of college basketball when your last championship came before Mark Pope ever checked into a Kentucky game. Win something, then start talking.

Kentucky #1 program in college basketball
Arkansas - #3 program all-time — in the SEC
