not really feeling college basketball after all these anthem protest. I really dont appreciate the lack of respect and ignorance that leads to these bizarre protest but it nonetheless is their right.
Wisconsin woman who kneeled, the mississippi team, etc.
Not going to revew tickets if this expands. Im mad at the ignorance but its really about my conscience regarding my money. I really dont wanna watch it from spoiled brats. For that reason, Im almost out. Wrestleone was right.

I'm sure we'll miss you. Its sad that some players kneeling upsets you more than the fact that there are still pro-Confederacy rallies in 2019.

Difference in perspective is not ignorance. All sides have reasonable points, if we would listen to one another.

Its the wrong place and time to protest, from my view. Therefore, it has done more to shut my ears than anything else. The fact that I pay to contribute to college basketball irks me everytime i see this. I dont think Im the only one. Maybe it wouldnt matter as much or be as glaring if we werent so awful.

Not sure that I have seen any pro Condereracy rallies on the court yet.
But, more broadly speaking, yea I have observed more boldness from hate groups from blacks, and some white groups, and sexist groups like Me Too, and all the anti sem hate within the democratic party.

Why don't you mind your own business? There's no law against picking one's nose during the National Anthem and there's no law that says one has to say the pledge of allegiance either. (Well, there IS a law, but it's subject to the First Amendment.)

All of this faux "patriotism" has run amok.

Standing during "God Bless America" for instance? That was a popular song during the two world wars but people act like it was sung by Geo. Washington himself and we have to stand for that.

If you're so serious about what other people choose to do during these false patriotic moments, I won't miss you at the games.

You realize the Ole Miss players kneeling was in peaceful protest to the pro-confederacy rallies in in Oxford, MS, right?

Troll though s/he may be, he also has a right to spend his money elsewhere. Please, athletes, continue to look that gift horse in the mouth.

Also, having the right to kneel in this country is contrasted with being forced to kneel in subjugation in others.

Anthem notwithstanding, I am very close to simply giving up on spectator sports. Tired of the preening ,self absorbed, praise me culture.

Rant board, I know

He does have the right to spend elsewhere absolutely. The fact that athletes are willing to face backlash and loss of some fan or donor support could be seen as principle over personal gain. Others look at it as spoiled. Eye of beholder.

I don't think that standing for God Bless America is expected. I don't and a lot of people around me at the FB games don't either. Are you sure that saying "the Pledge" is a law? Then again how about the BlackHawk fans who scream during the playing of the National Anthem. Disgraceful, right?

yes I know but when I go to a ncaa game, I expect to see some good honest sports and to be safe from the world around me that is corrupt. But the outside cnn/fox world is creeping into sports and i no longer feel i can just enjoy a game without all these different "victim" routines.
If it doesnt offend you then fine. My only point is that sports is losing its legitimacy with me. Im not the only one.

I am going to go with this didn't hapoen at all the NU game last night, and that this is just more trolling for attention by you, unless you provide evidemve to the contrary. Have not seen one story on anyone protesting the anthem at Welsh-Ryan last night, not from the Chocago media, not from the Madison media, not anywhere...

Several basketball players kneeed at the University of Mississippi last night, in opposition to a pro-Confederacy rally that happened Friday and Saturday and that caused great uproar on campus.

The athletes did a wonderful job of peacefully bringing attention to the issue. Their head coach - who specifically mentioned respecting the flag in his introductory press conference - strongly stood behind his players last night.

Kneeling during the anthem has become a wildly effective way to call attention to a topic, specifically one directly related to racial division or inequality.

Wondering why there is a need to play the Anthem before sporting events? Where else is it always played? Not at the theatre or the opera or at state and federal congressional sessions or ...

I always waited for the anthem to be over. But it is sung for solidarity purposes. Sorta like a prayer at the dinner table.
People like Colin Kap are asking for the salt to be passed before the kumbuya is over. Nothing wrong, just rude.

Willy, that's a really great question.

Another question is when did the teams start actively taking part in the anthem?

Baseball started using the anthem in 1918 to mitigate criticism that the players weren't over in Europe fighting WWI.

I think the players on the sidelines thing, specifically regarding football, started very recently.

I think taking the knee is about the most elegant form of protest I've witnessed. I like very much that young men and women are engaged in issues.

In regards to Kapernick, I think it took great courage for him to take the position he did. The young man risked everything and has had to pay a pretty steep price as a result.

Finding offense in the honorable manner in which Kapernick (sp?) and the U Miss players protested overt racism and violence towards their communities says a great deal about those offended.

Cool that is your choice. I am not perturbed even if I don’t agree with all of it. But if it ruins the escapism of sports for some, that is understandable.
