I AM surprised. He seems happy and healthy. Newish daughter ... success. Was getting into Jiu Jitsu heavily.

Mentioning Ripert. I thought he was a great influence on Tony. So zen (well he's a Buddhist). This just shocked me. If you'd said he dropped dead of a heart attack, I'd believe it, due to his previous hard living. Suicide though ... no. And to be found by Ripert ... damn.

I’m so bummed. Guy was absolutely one of the top few TV personalities around and had great insights and offered tons of cool exposure to developing nations and underrepresented areas of the country.

Sucks bad and assuming he suffered from depression pretty heavily.

Also wonder if had started to dabble in drugs again. As we’ve seen before a heroin addiction is so difficult to kick. Philip Seymour Hoffman was clean for like 20 years and just started using again out of the blue. Wonder if something like that happened?

It's not uncommon for a heroin addict that has been sober for a long time to have an accidental fatal overdose during a relapse. Sometimes they take a dose that they used to take just to get high but with a reduced tolerance due to sobriety it is fatal. Not sure if that was the case with Hoffman or Bourdain but it wouldn't be an unusual for a heroin addict during a relapse.

Edit: Looks like it was hanging so not an overdose. P.S. that seems like a terrible way to die.

Always respected that although he was clearly left-leaning, he was humble enough to not shove it down our throats in his chosen medium and always listened to other points of view and challenged his own thoughts. Only CNN show I made a point to watch.

Wish we had more like him. R.I.P.

Loved watching him until he said he would like to prepare a meal for Trump and poison it. Sad story all around.

Best line delivered this weekend by a professional who knew what they were talking about: “Depression is the Great Liar.”

So few people understand that. We’re doing a poor job of teaching ourselves and our children how to defend against it. Suicide is exploding in America and we have no plan to fight it.

Really gonna miss Bourdain.
