Any idea what Johnson and Moreno

JJ rumored to be getting somewhere between $1.2 to $1.5 million.

Moreno rumored to be getting between $650,000 to $850,000.

The most important take away is that they will be taken care of as long as they want to stay at Kentucky.

Kentucky truly eats first in the NIL. This offseason proved that.

We can finally put the "Kentucky is a poor state" argument to bed when it comes to paying our players above market value.

Isn’t that the sign of the times. Lol.
We are bragging we pay players the most in an attempt to win. Those rich boosters coughing up this money is so stupid.

Well people can do what they want with their money.
Yes they can. I just don’t understand why people WANT to overpay. If boosters would have offered 50k to play athletes would have taken that in a heartbeat. So instead, they offer 2 million.
That’s gotta be I’m richer, I can waste more. Stupid.

It depends on if they choose the cash option or the 30-year annuity.

Yeah I'll admit the price tags are steep. JJ isn't some top freshmen either so 1.5 for a guy who probably won't even start is an interesting allocation of budget. I would have put that more towards a transfer with experience.

I think if we could get the good players to commit for 50K, we would do that. I don't think Mark Pope or the rich KY boosters are overpaying these kids because they want to.

We're competing with other schools. So they aren't only hearing from Kentucky. So we're not in some situation where we can tell kids "This is the most you can get. Take it or leave it."

Just look at Lewis. He left for Playing time and $$. It was not one over the other. Pope is being a good steward of the money for players I do believe. Some teams are paying (reportedly) $4 mil for some players out there. UK getting the best bang for the buck. Now does not mean after effect will show the money was well spent on each player. That takes the player to perform without injuries for the 2025-26 season. If that happens then it will be even better. I do not think anyone is bragging or happy that these guys are making the $$ they are making. If you want to be one of the best teams in College Basketball (in todays day and age) you will have to play money to do so.

I figure it works like this:

Pope has been allocated a set amount of funds. His NIL budget.

Pope knows the approximate market value for each type of player (all-American, all-conference, starter, role player, etc.) and makes an offer near that figure.

The player being offered compares that to other offers he has gotten from other coaches, makes a decision, or negotiates a better deal with either Pope or another coach.

It’s a market like any other, where there is supply and demand and that drives the prices. Demand is driving up the prices, most likely as several coaches are competing for a finite set of resources (players).

Those that are willing to pay more will get more.

As much as some fans hate it, it’s just basic economics.

Coaches aren’t overpaying just to waste money, the value of players is going up because of supply and demand.

In other words, Pope and the boosters or donors or whoever do not decide on their own how much to pay, it’s based on the market. The market includes all of the buyers (coaches/universities) and all of the sellers (players/agents).

I think he is well worth that price.

No way to know that though based on unproven high school nonsense. I heard that on this board for 15 years.
Many of our recruits were great. I don’t know why you seem upset. What would the alternative be just not recruit any HS players?

Basketball and long hair don’t go well together. Oweh needs to encourage these guys cut those nests.
Steve Nash, Larry Bird, Bill Walton, Dirk Nowitzki.

There’s been many a GOAT with long hair.

Then some personal faves like Luis Scola and Chris “Birdman” Andersen

are getting in the form of NIL?
Nobody will say so anybody here that posted numbers is just guessing.
Rumored and predicted, so you can say any number or that any person is going to a certain school but till he signs it's the same thing just a guess.

As opposed to what? Imagine the program and boosters not being at the forefront of NIL, how do you think that would go within BBN?
The current model dictates that you pay to play or there's little to no chance of being successful.

Can't wait for that day to end, and then we can get back to college athletes.

Put me down as someone that is very happy that we don't have to depend on either of these two freshman getting 15-20+ minutes a game. Hope they kill it though.

I tend to agree with CRZ4UK. This NIL era is ridiculous.
What started as players can profit on their name has morphed into million dollar contracts.
While good for the players and our team now, I just do not see this as sustainable.

And when the $$ starts running dry, guess who is gonna have to cough up the funds?

The fans are already paying for it. It could not be any better for the NCAA.
They ruined it and now the fans are flipping the bill to pay for their miss deeds. You can’t write a better story.

Big donors gain increased access and influence, now getting to be "professional owners" at a fraction of the cost.

Let's hope Oweh does not have a Sampson affect. He did alright last year with that mop on his head. I think he got advice to look the part for the NBA interviews. Worm to butterfly thing.
