Any Information on Matt Haarms?

Hi Everyone,

I’ve been active on the football board but as this is my first post on the hoops side I’ll briefly introduce myself. I recently got accepted to Kellogg and decided to go all in on ‘Cats fandom. I’ve loved this football season!

Anyway, I went to BYU for undergrad and follow them closely as well. Over the summer former Boilermaker Matt Haarms transferred to BYU. Seeing as he would have faced NU several times wanted to see if anyone had any insight on what kind of player he was for Purdue?

Side Note: I attended the 2014 Maui Invitational where BYU lost in overtime to Purdue. I’ve hated them ever since.

Side Note 2: I live in Salt Lake and was witness to the sea of purple that descended on the city during March Madness. One of the most impressive things I’ve ever seen.

Haarms resembles a giant praying mantis. He's not a big scorer, but will get some putbacks and can definitely alter shots in the lane on defense. The thing you'll notice right away is the enthusiasm with which he plays. Dude really gets fired up, and that rubs off on his teammates. Not a cornerstone-type player, but a nice complementary piece. He'll help BYU, IMO.

He’s a very good player and I do think you got a good pickup. He’s obsessed with flicking his hair which is wildly annoying when watching him play.

Hans, you're a Purdue guy, right? So you'd know better than I would. But I always thought of Haarms as more than just a placeholder, but a solid contributor. Just always got a kick out of seeing him next to Isaac Haas - both nine feet tall, one built like a tank and the other like a stick.

Haarms can be a double double guy if he’s used the right way. He can only go left, a la Dererk Pardon. But is effective doing so.

He’s the type of player local fans love and opposing fans hate (went to 3 game at Mackey last year and the crowd loved any chance to cheer him). His energy and enthusiasm are contagious. His hair isnot as fabulous as he believes it is.

He’ll be very good for BYU. Queta at USU made them a very respected team. That’s what serious wingspan can do and the way it can influence the game.
