My mother in law just passed away from cancer a couple weeks ago and left us some coins that belonged to her father. My son and I went through them just to see what was in the box (they were all just thrown in there and not in anything). We found a bunch of Civil War era coins which was pretty cool, but the best thing we came across was from 237 years ago.
It is in pretty rough shape unfortunately, but at least you can see the date is 1781. I can make out skilling which I found out is a Scandinavian coin. I wish I had the story behind how he came to own it. Might have been passed down through their family all these years or he might have just found it somewhere. It isn't really worth anything, but we weren't going to sell it anyways. We probably will just pass the coins down to our kids when they are older.
Anyone came across anything old like that or maybe something rare? I'll try and post a few pictures of some of the other ones we came across later.
