Should be starting soon. They also will be live streaming it but you have to pay money for that. You know, the free practice.

And they are high as a kite if they think I'm gonna pay money to watch a practice.

The first time I went to the coach's clinic was 2004 I believe. When they did those, it was typically late October and they had been practicing for a few weeks. Yesterday's work was their first official practice I believe, and I could really tell the difference. They aren't crisp yet and there are a lot of roles that need to be defined. All that will come.

There doesn't seem to be a "first team" yet. It started with Thornton working with the four returners, but it was fluid and I doubt that remains the first team. There was a good bit of work on full court man. Offensively, the bulk of the work involved ball screens and dribble handoffs. They seem to want to do that more to set up opportunities to attack since they don't have an Okafor they want to feed and play through.

Vrank was in a boot and didn't practice, so there was always a walk-on in, mostly Pags.

This was one practice, but I have tempered my expectations for Obi, even though they weren't ridiculous to begin with. In the last segement of practice they scrimmaged, and Coach let Marshall and Amile pick teams. Walk-ons Pags and Robinson were picked before Obi, and he didn't get to scrimmage.

Danny Ferry and David Robinson set court side and watched.

Obi was picked behind the walk ons.. Wow. Did anyone stand out from a leadership point as being vocal? And how did Grayson and Ingram look?

Had a buddy there that gave me this (not a ton):

Marshall and Amile - very vocal.

Grayson trying but looks a bit like he's adjusting to the role of being vocal.

Obi was meh. Big kid that'll grab boards, but he's not Dukes starting C.

Thornton is going to be special, and I stand by my original statement - he's going to break plenty of ankles.

Ingram is smooth, lanky but smooth.

Hard to tell much otherwise.

The three captains, Plumlee, Jefferson, and Jones, were VERY vocal. It is clearly a skill the others are going to need to foster. Coach stopped practice multiple times to emphasize that point when he felt they were collectively not communicating.

Justin Robinson is a "late blooming" type of player. Although many (including me) don't expect him to contribute this season (and most likely redshirt), there have been reports that he does have game. From all that's being said is he is a combo forward (a stretch 4) that can shoot the ball well, is active defensively and has a good basketball IQ. I know people are extremist and either are very negative thinking or over optimistic. I don't think anyone really can speculate about Justin. Maybe it will be interesting to hear what posters say after CTC.
