Anyone Ever Made A Slideshow On DVD?

We are planning a memorial for my mother in law who has late stage cancer. I've already collected a bunch of pictures from off of social media and scanned old pictures to my laptop. The problem I am having is there doesn't appear to be any kind of program on my laptop for doing this.

Windows 10 doesn't include Movie Maker anymore and the DVD burner software doesn't have an option to make a slideshow. Most programs online are about $40 to $50 and I don't really want to spend that for something I might use once or twice. I tried searching online for a cheap alternative, but had no luck. Most have a free version, but they don't do what I need.

I want something that can constantly replay the pictures (I have about 125 pictures) over and over and also allow me to add a number of songs (have a list of 9) to play with it. That way the pictures don't end before the music does. I downloaded a trial of Microsoft Office that has PowerPoint, but have no experience with using it at all and being able to convert it over to play on a DVD.

Anyone know of a reasonably priced alternative (like $20 or less) that can do all that? I appreciate any help I can get. May not have very long to get this done.

With 9 songs you would have to have hundreds of pictures. PowerPoint does have the capability of creating a video but you’d need to narrow down the song choices. If you need that many songs, probably best to have a separate audio player somewhere.

I can cut back on some of the songs. My sister in law had a CD made with songs that her mom likes and it has 9 on it. I just want to be able to keep the DVD playing non stop for maybe like an hour with continuous pictures on the screen. I figure each picture can stay on the screen for about 4 or 5 seconds and that would run through all the pictures about 4 times by the time the music is done with 9 songs. That's if I can figure out if I can do that. If I have to I can just do it with no music and get a separate player for the music, but I prefer to just have it all on one disc.

I think you will either have to spend the $50 or find somebody that owns the software. A wedding photography service or a funeral home can probably put everything together, but it will be more than $50.

i use Microsoft Movie Maker for these types of projects.
you can use pictures, video clips, and music. very flexible too.
it is free to download from Microsoft.
the file will get very large in size, but when you compile it you can choose the output format; Youtube, phone, computer, tablet, etc.
i just did one for my Grandmothers 100th birthday. end product was pretty good and all the family members loved it.

It's not freely available on the web anymore.

Huh. Someone must have created that from the Windows code or something. That doesn't look like an official Microsoft page at all. Looks like the same one I have though.

yeah, it works great. intuitive enough that even i can make a quality movie or slideshow!!!

I appreciate the help, but I ended up going to Office Depot about an hour ago to see what they had and found this for like $30. Hopefully it works well.

Wasn't sure about that knockoff one. Most of the "free ones" looked alike, but as soon as you tried to do something with them they either limited what you could do or sent you to a pay screen. So I figured I would go ahead and just get this since it is reasonably priced.

Well I was there right before closing so definitely not many customers. Only option around at that time of night I could think of that sold software after a failed Best Buy trip.

By the way that software ended up working well to make the slideshow, but of course for some reason it wouldn't burn to disc. Didn't even show the DVD burner and just said it was busy which it was not being used. Probably because of this laptop being 6 or 7 years old. We don't use it much because of smart phones and tablets, but might be time to purchase a new one.

It worked saving it to the computer as a wmv file and then putting it on a USB thumb drive and plugging into my TV. Unfortunately I don't know if the TV that will be available will have a USB plugin. I tried converting it to an mpg file and using the Toshiba disc creator program to make a DVD, but the disc was incompatible with the DVD players I tried. I even downloaded a program called ImgBurn to make an iso file and using it to burn the disc with no luck. Last thing I tried was a different type of DVD disc with no luck. So I'm probably just going to have to make sure I have a TV there that will play the USB thumb drive.

It sucks that something that should be so simple has to cause so many issues.
I'm just going to blame Bill Gates and Microsoft for not including key programs in Windows anymore.
