Anyone ever tried Irish moonshine?

A friend of a friend has got his hands on something called poitin, maybe?

Not sure it if it's genuine Irish moonshine, but from I've read up on it, that stuff is illegal and lethal.

Anyone had a run in with this stuff?

No but I want to... and then make love to a redheaded lass in a meadow near Dublin.

And, ideally, not have the whole thing turn into a modern day Trainspotting.

Yes. It tastes horrible, is strong and is similar to any other non-flavored moonshine I've ever drank.

My wife got it from her great uncle for her high school graduation. Her dad took it and would break it out for weddings, funerals, and random events.
