Not in Kentucky but perhaps there is something similar there to what I did here in Virginia, which I explain below.
My previous employer was trying to dick me over on unemployment by giving a bunch of lies saying I quit without cause which jeopardizes the amount of money I get and rather I am even eligible or not.
All the state employment offices are closed in VA are closed, so all we have for contacting them right now by phone is an automated phone system and another number where you call and if you don’t get connected with a representative they just end the call instead of putting you hold, so basically it’s like one of them radio phone in contests where you have to call at just the right time. There is a live chat but it’s difficult to get connected to anyone on there as well and they aren’t very helpful because all of these phone and chat people are just customer service reps, not people that can really help you if you have an actual problem like I have.
So I looked up local organizations that work with people to help them navigate unemployment and a whole range of different things pertaining to employment. So they have a working relationship with the employment commission (VEC), which runs the unemployment benefits for the state.
I found one that had an email address listed and emailed them on Thursday. They said they would give my name and contact info to some people they had a working relationship with at the VEC, so people that actually deal with stuff beyond what a customer service rep can. So one of them called me and helped me out same day, gave me a fax number I can submit a letter to and thank God you can send faxes through a website because who is unemployed and owns a fax machine? Did what he said and then another one called same day asking questions about the letter. Next day I got a call from a third VEC employer to schedule an adjudication hearing for this morning. Sounds like everything has been resolved based on what she said but I have to wait to get something in the mail to know for sure.
Luckily for me it will only effect two weeks of unemployment for me because my employer got one of them paycheck protection loans and I started back at work today.
Unemployment systems in most places are antiquated beyond belief. They were never designed from the ground level to be able to handle something like we’re seeing now. Hell some states operate on such ancient computer coding that there’s barely anyone alive that actually knows how to write the code. Just about every state I have heard stories from needs to completely scrap what they have and start brand new because it’s archaic and isn’t getting the job done efficiently even in the states where it has gone best. Blame it on whatever politician you want but a lot of the problems go back well beyond any current governor. Unless said state has no term limits on governors and the governor has been in office for decades.
