I would. Problem is lifespan is 7 years and losing pets is hard on me.

They are also on dangerous dogs list. Where I used to live, a GD killed a bike rider.

If I win the lottery... no wait, when I win the lottery, I am getting the ultimate dog.... The Caucasian Shepherd.

Had 2, they were littermates. GD's are an awesome breed but only buy from a reputable breeder. All large breeds can have inherent genetic defects. Our boys were pretty young when we got them but the dogs were great with them. Typical lifespan can be from 6-10 years, that is definitely a downside. We were lucky and both of ours were nearly 12 before we had to let them go.

6 month old Great Dane puppy. She was a rescue from a "reputable" puppy mill that was closed near Henderson. She was born in the Humane Society there. She's around 80 pounds or more and already taller than our Airedales. She thinks she's a lap dog. All of our research calls them "gentle giants". I really think that disposition is all about the way they're treated. She is going to need her own couch. They also have very thin coats and ours is very cold natured.

There is a great rescue in Kentucky (yeah, I'm a rescue person, I don't care for dogs being euthanized in shelters while people too lazy to get real jobs line their pockets with puppy money watch it happen). If you do use a breeder, visit it to make sure that it's not a puppy mill and that the conditions are good. Rule of thumb - if they won't let you visit, it's a puppy mill.

Here is Sassy. Ignore the meme writing - my wife edited the picture.
