Jupiter and Saturn appear closer together than any point in our lifetimes. I want to say it was 6:15 not long after sundown. Easy to see with the naked eye.

agree, I could see it just after sunset, really cool. Last time was 1226 AD . . . it was in the same galaxy, but truly a long, long time ago

I like how every article on that has to state that the two planets aren't actually close to each other at all. I guess there are dumb asses out there wondering about the potential fallout of Jupiter and Saturn colliding.

Still confused as to why a few folks are calling it the xmas star. Followed immediately by describing it as two planets closely aligned in the sky.

It's not a star!

Well, people are idiots when it comes to astronomy. That's why you hear Venus referred to as the evening or morning star & why most people confuse astronomy with astrology.

It was west southwest for me. Last it last two evenings. Probably 5x further apart last night.

If your kids liked that, get the ISS tracker app. It's a good way to explain basics of satellites. Sometimes you can get some great views of it.
