My gramps has lived there for over 20 something years. I have been all over that state. The coast is a must if you go there and the majority of the population and tourist stuff is on the coast. I would do a trip though that allows some time in the interior also as it is just beautiful in those woods up there and it is so nice smelling the fresh scent of the woods. When I would go up as a youngster I always stayed at my gramps place and just fished and hunted all summer and fall. We would also pick berries and go look for wild life to see. Fishing up there is my favorite place on this Earth to fish as my gramps was basically in the middle of no where and there might be 3 boats on the whole lake all day. Just so quite and relaxing. If you do the coastal stuff take the coastal hwy and stop at a bunch of bed and breakfast places. Now that I am married the wife and I would go up every other year and we spend time doing the coastal towns then stay at my gramps place for a while in the interior. One place I always hit up because I always went there as a kid is Bar Harbor. This is very touristy though but they have Arcadia MT which is a park and has a bunch of hiking and stuff. If money isn't a huge problem I recommend a place there called Balance Rock Inn. It is on the ocean and it is an old mansion from way back that they turned into an inn. It is really beautiful and has a walking trailer right out back you can walk along the ocean. They also do breakfast in the morning and it is usually pretty good. Then you can drink some wine or brews by the fire outside at night. If you have any questions just tag me and I will do my best to help out. My family on my grandparents side have lived there their whole lives. I have family up in Presque Isle also so I have been all over that state. I love bigfoot hunting up there as walking the woods is just my cup of tea and so relaxing.

The coastal HWY is HWY 1. You can take this from the South all the way to the North in Canada then hit up the interior on the way back down. It won't take you all the way North but you will hit the Canadian boarder then you turn into the interior.

I was up there for a summer wedding a couple of years ago just a bit south of Bar Harbor.

Beautiful state, will be going back. I envy the people that live there, even in winter.

I was up there one year during winter for my great grandpa's funeral. I was up in Presque Isle and it was the coldest weather I have ever experienced. There is a river that runs through that town and it must bring the temps down like another 20 degrees it seem like. I will say they snow machining up there in the winter is awesome. They have a complete trail system and you can go all over the state all the way to the Canadian border. That was one of the cooler things I have done up there. You go through towns, lakes, and the woods. They even have like 4 lane trails. Getting out into nature is not a problem up there.

Might have to go up there soon just see what snow looks like again.

Living here in Claremore/Verdigris, I have completely forgotten what a real snow looks like since we haven't had one in SEVEN F^#}iNG YEARS.
