Nope...even the promos looked & sounded horrible. The "musical" guests were pitiful.

Just because people make music doesn't mean it deserves an award.
"Aaannnd the award for the best smelling turd goes to....."

I did. I like all kinds of music and love watching live performances/singers. Very minimal lip syncing last night which is refreshing. Even if you don't like the music, it's still impressive to pull off some of the stuff these folks do. Don't really care about who won what, though.

I have vibed out to Billie Eilish a few times in the minivan though. Sue me.

I did see that Run DMC was a guest but I am not sure if they performed or not.
They did. Run is huge, but Darryl looks like he could be in his 30s. They both looked and sounded good compared to Steven Tyler, but he puts on a good show.

So I went and listened to see if she is someone my kid listens to and you should never admit listening to that.

Meh. It's original. Everyone complains that all pop music sounds the same, but hers doesn't. She and her brother did all of this stuff on their own before it went big so I think that's a good thing. Of course I wouldn't have known her name before last night either if I didn't have kids that turned her stuff on. She's old news to most kids now, though.

If anyone is looking for the next big act to not like, his name is Jacob Collier. Won a Grammy last night, and a couple of years ago, for best arrangement. Kind of a big deal for a 25 year old who does everything on his own.

Well, I just listened to 'Bad Guy' and have to say it's dreadful. If that's popular music, I'll stick with something other than electronica/drumbeat/weirdness for my drive to/from work. If someone likes stuff like that, great. It's free country. But, to me, that isn't anything close to what I would consider 'good'.

The majority of what was on display last night was not "music".

He has a strange voice and it's all a bit too much for me, but he is crazy talented for what he does. Not really my cup of tea, though.

-watched a bit with my teenage daughter. Twas ok.

-i love it when a bunch of midlle aged turds ***** about what is and isn't music. Most hip hop/rap/pop isn't my thing...but to claim it doesnt take talent/creativity is *really* ignorant.

Can’t think of much I have less interest in. Just a bunch of narcissistic, maniacal nonsense. All the award shows are.

While it takes a certain amount of skill to assemble an automobile, I respect the person who designed and created it more than the technician who puts it together. This is most likely my bias, but much of today's music sounds like it's 'assembled' from various pre-written parts while the artists I respect actually design and build the parts. We can agree to disagree about the relative quality and necessary creativity revealed by today's music.

-i get what you're saying, but i will say that a lot of the bands that many old dudes(myself included) love weren't really original either. Led zepplin ripped off the old AA blues (could he said about most blues based rock)...its still outstanding music. Ac/dc has released the same song 800 times and it still rocks. Everyone "borrows".

-i think there is a bias amongst some folks for "guitar based" music. I played bass/guitar in bands for years...i much prefer that type of music. But synth/electronica/rap/hip hop is no less original, imho...and like rock some is good and some is bad.

You need to get over Dancing in the Dark.
Actually, I did. Then that unpardonable sin -- otherwise known as Glory Days -- was released, full of speedballs and excessive make-up on dudes prancing around like fairies...

Sad.

Just forget the entire Born in the USA album ever came out and you'll be fine.

No we can't.

And I have never watched an award show of any kind. I am more interested in my own life than theirs.

-every time i say this to my wife she reminds me that i spend hours following football recruiting and watch every uk fb/bb game religiously. Then i hush.

Yeah, but a game is entertaining. Music is entertaining. Movies are entertaining. I just don't get the allure of watching shows about shows. To each their own I guess but I just had to defend Springsteen against Mav again.

Music awards shows are mostly live performances with a few congratulations thrown in.

Something called Tyler the Creator won best rap album. Go watch a video or two on youtube and you realize that the Grammy's are a joke.
