AP Top 10 Since Friday 1/9

Using last week's AP polls, the Top 10 teams are a combined 7-6 since the weekend started last Friday.

Wins:
Missouri
Texas A&M
#13 Notre Dame
Clemson
Virginia Tech
Santa Clara
DePaul

Losses:
NC State
Miami
Rutgers
#18 North Carolina
Oregon State
Oklahoma State

Only one win came against a ranked opponent (granted only 2 opportunities), and 5 losses to unranked opponents. Welcome to conference play fellas. Thought it was kind of crazy that the 10 best teams in the country collectively barely made it above .500 over those few days, and it wasn't like they were playing a murderer's row of teams or beating up on each other. Things change in the college basketball landscape when January rolls around, and no matter who you are you better come to play every night.

Easy to lose track of, but look at the power conferences. The only team left with only 1 loss or fewer is Virginia, and then Villanova if you still want to count the Big East. There's also Gonzaga (and that's likely to stay that way), but that's it. Even if those teams stay near UK's level, none is really competing with UK for the same #1 seed.

One game at a time and all, but really, UK could all but lock up the 1 seed in the Midwest/Cleveland by the middle of February.

The only two one see locks (IMO) are UK and Gonzaga. UVA probably as well, but they have to start playing good teams at some point in the ACC, so they will start losing some games. Those 3 probably get them though.

The last one? Duke? Better get it together soon. Wisconsin? Jackson being out hurts. Villanova? Could be the wild card here. Arizona? For all the hate, they have TWO losses.

Wichita ain't gettin' a 1 seed. No way, no how. They can win the rest of their games by 50, and it probably still won't happen (and along those lines, Gonzaga doesn't deserve a 1 seed either). Their non-conference wasn't that challenging, they lost twice, they play in a mid-major conference. Undefeated should be the standard for them getting a 1 seed. Ditto Gonzaga, though they might get one if they stay at 1 loss. You play in a conference like the MVC or the WCC, then you need to go out and prove your worth in November and December. Gonzaga came close at Arizona (and that might get them a 1 seed), but where's the signature win?

WVa is an interesting case. Huggy seems to have himself a real team again, after the post 2010 slide. If they get hot and win the Big 12, then yeah, they're in contention for a top seed. However, dropping a home game to Iowa State isn't the best way to make your case for a 1. But the Big 12 is overrated (again) so whatever team manages to come out on top (probably Kansas, because it's just inevitable) will be in the hunt for a 1 seed. That only effects UK, though, if UK sh*** the bed in a major way. Whoever the Big 12 champ is should be waaaaay in the backseat to UK. UK gets its region of preference, the Big 12 picks up the scraps.

Hahaha has anyone actually WATCHED WVU play this year? They have a solid defense but their offense looks like a dumpster fire. They are going to lose several more games this year.

UVA will be a 1 seed but they will still lose 3-4 in the ACC. As i said a while back if you can only lose 4 in the ACC this year you will win it . Teams like UL and UNC who are in the top 5 of the conferece i expect will have 6-7 losses . Only VT and to some extent FSU are gimmes .

In other words, a typical Bob Huggins' team.

You're probably right, but they've turned things around enough to warrant a little attention. At least for now.

I didn't mean that all those teams would get a #1 seed,but when you start plugging them into 2,3,or 4 seeds it gets crowded at the top.If Duke gets run off the #1 seed line then you gotta put some one up there.The Zags probably get there by default.
The cats will be a #1,somebody from the ACC will be a #1,Ku will probably screw around and get one(but maybe not)that leaves 1 or 2 spots to fill.Wis. missing their pg could be a problem for them.One possible. outcome is Nova as a #1 and Duke as their #2

For the record i agree Wichita St won't be a #1 seed.
