Are the days of retired jerseys ending?

Thinking about the NIL and the trend of big name players switching teams. What's going to be the new protocol for honoring a player? Minimum number of years? Stay committed all 4 or can they be a one year transfer and still have their number retired? Just wondering.

If you are only with the program for a year, you had better win the Heisman and/or lead us to a national championship. Short of that, I can't see retiring a number/jersey of a one-year wonder.

Agreed. Only 3-4 year players will be around long enough to break school records. Number of honored players about to grind to a halt.
