we have quite a few Michigan residents in our company, and most are flaming Wolverine fans. I was surprised that many seem to be unhappy that Jimmy is staying at UM. They all got excited about others. One even suggested that Gattis will now likely leave n 2023 - they seem to think he was the heir.

Did you notice that Gaddis is going to U of Miami as OC? He's quoted as telling some of his Michigan players that he wasn't appreciated by the administration.

I heard that this AM on ESPNU but mentioned as very speculative with some guy from Dolphins as an option.

Deep down inside I think they’re happy and relieved.

The other day on Get Up it was reported Gattis had asked to be considered for the, then, apparent opening. Then Hairball came crawling back. Josh had to leave at that point.

I don't know what Michigan fans think, but I am mostly happy, as a penn state fan, that Jimmy is staying. They had a great year, in sort of a perfect storm way(think PSU 2016 "ahead of schedule team"), but mostly, Jimmy has been underwhelming there. I think he is filled with hubris, he wants to be an old school power run game offense and it just isn't going to win him 11 games every year, especially is his O-Line is not up to snuff. They got exposed against Georgia, a team that was strength vs. strength in the trenches. Jimmy feels like you can win championships with a game manager QB and tough O-Lines and I just think it takes that....and way more dynamism. Yes, Georgia won and they are sort of a throwback, but the kids(men) playing O-line and D-line at Georgia were very clearly in another world than Michigan(and us too for that matter). I think Gattis wanted to run more of a speed/space offense like Moorhead there, but was put in a box. Coupled with Jimmy's general weirdness, I think recruiting will slowly take a hit and top level athletes won't want to go there to be a cog in his power run game. Michigan had one way to beat you on offense this year, ball control, strong RB's and run game, and I just don't see that being sustainable in this day and age if it's your only fastball.

I’ll add to this. They picked a great year to have a monster OL. We lost PJ our anchor, and tOSU had a subpar (for them) DL. The stars kind of aligned. Add to that a pair of DEs that were game changers. Imagine having 2 chase young’s, or both Bosa brothers on the same team.

And I don’t know that I agree with those saying they finally got over the hump. They beat tOSU for the first time in 8 years. They’re not OVER the hump. It’s not all downhill from here. But I sure love that this delusion is keeping Jimmy around.

His recruiting classes over the past 3 years (depending on which site you look at) have all been ranked inside the top 10. With a trip to the college playoffs this year I can only imagine 2023 being another top 10 class. With that said, you’re correct, in order to run his offense you need a star studded offensive line and a very physical running back. His running backs have been good, but not great. He needs an Eddie Lacy or Derrick Henry type back to soften up and stretch a Georgia or Alabama type defense. Michigan fans are crazy to think they’re going to land a better HC than Harbaugh.
