Are you concerned that you may be priced out of attending games in person?

Just curious if anyone on the board is also concerned about the current college athletics environment and whether or not you may be priced out of your favorite sport/ sports? As a Gopher fan, I am not super worried about the immediate future because the demand is still below supply (all sports). However Penn State has made it to the College football play-off. There is no reason to think that there won't be another Play-off run.

Again, Just curious.

I attended the Orange Bowl and spent two nights near the stadium for roughly the same price of attending a game in HV and that includes my airfare to Fort Lauderdale. This is mostly attributable to finding a hotel for $400 for two nights in Adventura, FL vs. the extortionist pricing of hotels in HV..

Used to attend 2-3 a year. It’s. 5.5 hour drive and often out and back from NW Ohio. Now, my son has moved to Grand Rapids, MI, so it’s not as convenient.
This year we attended UWash game. Last year we didn’t attend. Likely will be the same going forward - every other year. I get antsy buying early and spending more than I care to.
Has it priced me out? Not at this time.

That happened 15 years ago for me. with my last kid going off to college (not PSU), it was an easy decision to walk away.

once the last kid is done at PSU --- serious revisit ---as families get bigger not everyone can go anyway--- probably rather spend on 1 weekend where everyone can go than whole season where I Eat 2-4 tickets each week... love tailgating ...but again reserved parking adds to the mix as does the 3hr drive up and back gets old pretty quick for the likes of Nevada and such

IIRC, the AD has announced a price freeze through the 2026 season. 2027 will be the first season after the renovations so prices will be interesting then. I’d like to be there for 2027 but I’ll have to wait and see. There are also other personal factors too. Time will tell.

Only really go if my colleague hooks me up - he has around a dozen season tix and two parking passes and that’s how I took my family, nieces, and in-laws to see Bowling Green last year. May do it again this year but I’d really love to spend a night in SC. We’ll see.

Mrs KG figured out years ago that for the price of our season tickets and hotels (and the required donations), we could go to Europe every other year. In the last two years we've been to Tanzania, Italy, Estonia, Germany, and The Netherlands (and stepped into Belgium at the tripoint). We still try to go to a road game when we can. We may not go to Europe this year but will go to California twice (and may hit the UCLA game).

And I also had the same issue as OhioLion--it was a similar distance from Central Ohio. Not bad when one is 40 or so but tougher when one is in one's late 60s.

Didn’t cost me much to go to the Minnesota game 😆 Even Madison was relatively reasonable. I’d love to get back to State College more often. It’s not even the airfare, but as others have said, the hotel prices are crazy. And after all that travel, I don’t want to stay an hour away.

I no longer live in Happy Valley and gave up all my season tix. Will try to get tix for 1 home game a year and would love to try to get tix in redone section. Will be interesting to see what folks will be reselling for in those sections once completed. Only a certain amount I will pay. So, yea, may be outpriced from that aspect.

I’m pro blue/white weekend. We have student contacts setting up a tailgate and the 2 BR VRBO is $750, walkable (less than a mile to town)
No reason to go in the game so moms n me are covering the house, 2 n GF are covering everything 5pm to 3am Saturday night. So I say 85% of the Oregon weekend experience for 6% of the cost.
Cost breakdown
house 750
miller 30 packs 50
tailgate food 100
easy peasy

for reference, Oregon 4 br VRBO s were $5k. tickets 200 n up?

while we’re chatting, what’s the age limit to crash in east halls on the floor with a family friend frosh bro. We’re gonna have 3 students up there for the next 5 years I’m pumped:cool:

We are now attending away PSU games or SEC games in the south since we have family in TN. Getting too expensive to travel to PSU and pay for Air B&B, food, parking, etc. I can watch the bigger PSU home games on TV.

Is it just me or does anyone else find this information share really creepy? 😲

Why would a 60+ year old male be interested in sleeping in a student dormitory?🤷‍♂️

Because a hotel room is $ 1500.00/ night on football weekends and really pricey for many other weekends as well.

The last couple of times we went to PSU for a home game, we used points. Did that for the game at Auburn as well. Hint--for away games look for hotels the week of the game, as many hotels are blocked out for ticket packages that don't sell and they come open late. Worked for us at Illinois too.

Another factor is my age. I am 76 now and as I get older, I am looking at the weather and the physical effort to get to a game. A cold rain is the worst. I go to most home games, but the games in late Oct. and in Nov. tend to be bad weather games. My age and the price have me looking to give up season tickets and enjoying the view from my living room.

all The away destinations have hotel rooms that are way more affordable that Penn State. When they play in Ann Arbor, or East Lansing, Chicago, Madison, Minneapolis, etc. etc, it is a fraction of the cost and the quality bars and restaurants much more plentiful. Away trips are great.

For fans like us who have to fly in for home games, away games are much more affordable. And, you get the experience of visiting a different campus and/or city.

While nothing beats Gameday in Happy Valley, we love supporting the Lions on the road. And we can justify the expense because it’s more of a vacation experience.

I'm giving up my season tickets this year as well as the home schedule to me doesn't warrant having season tickets and driving up to the games and/or spending two nights in Altoona. Oregon may be the exception for me this year. Plus with so many people constantly making beer runs during the games and being surrounded by people there to drink rather than watch the game the constant parade in front of me becomes annoying, and if I am sitting, which is rare nowadays, it's usually with someone else's knees in my back so all that has taken away from the enjoyment of the game.

My bad knees limit my walking and enjoyment as well so I don't see as much of campus or town like I used to on game days either. I'll try to continue to go to Penn State road games and as Wandering Spectator wrote make it part of a bigger trip.

I still have road games at Indiana, Minnesota, Northwestern, Oregon, Purdue, Rutgers, UCLA (although I did the Rose Bowl), USC and Washington to go in the Big 10.
