That’s where the discussion becomes tricky. You gotta pay to get good players no doubt, but Is a situation where you 2 players maybe 3 for 1 player, or do you want ament and worry value the rest later
So how duke is filled with five stars

Incoming high school players, and many of remaining players are consisted of five stars and then each may require 1m at least.

When I saw the whole McDonalds announcement, I was a little weary and I have been very positive about him as a player. I also saw some unwillingness to attempt to get back on D in a very recent game highlight where his team lost like a 15 point lead in about 2 minutes. He just seemed to be going through the motions. I know a lot of HS kids don’t play a lot of defense, but most are very competitive and he just didn’t seem to care.

Musselman was his dad’s NBA coach I think.

I'm hoping we get a Euro big that can rebound, pass, and shoot.
I'm still confused about when those guys are eligible and when they're not. I mean, college players are legally getting paid now so is it the "professional" moniker that prevents some of them from being eligible?

I watched Gils Arena where he announced his commitment . He basically said Mussellman called him everyday . Gil said other coaches really didn’t reach out much like they didn’t realize he reclassified. Mussellman was Gil coach at one point in the NBA so I’m sure that helped .

Did he even take any visits outside of USC? It was a pretty quiet recruitment. I know a lot of people on here don’t like Gil but they handled the recruitment better than most

Ament wants 2.1m I think
What's your source for the 2.1m ?
You would have to be super connected to know any NIL figures for any player
I don't think any of our assistant coaches would give up that info even to someone like Matt Jones especially while a recruitment is still ongoing.
I don't buy that there was ever a bidding war between UK and UNC for Wilson.

Sounds like it will be the portal for us .

I guess he really didn’t have a top 5 after all
Arenas was a red flag guy from jump for a program like UK. When your Dad openly states winning championships/team goals mean nothing-just go where you can get numbers up--that's going to be a recruitment where a top tier talent ends up going to a place like USC to play in front of 2800 on a good night. When the eventual pushback comes from fans of the sport it'll be some made up reason to choose USC to deny the actual words said dating back to when you get genuine responses from a player or his parent(s).

We need to tap into the NBA, we have a hoard of max contract guys to help recruit and donate. They also know hundreds of wealthy individuals they could get on board. Network!
Seems like we have the NIL locked up I just don't think Pope is wanting to spend the kind of money these guys are demanding. If it's true Ament wants 2.1 million I don't see Pope spending that on a freshman. He can go get a couple experienced players he can plug into his system.

Wanting and getting are 2 different things. He may get that from a program, but just because he wants it doesn’t mean he will get it.

If you want the biggest bag, I would not wait until the late April time frame. Teams have likely already committed most of their NIL for the freshman class and the portal players start to look like a better deal.

How many true freshmen do we want? Seems having experienced portal transfers with the current expected roster would be a really good thing.

Some of these former Cats in the NBA would not have been a good fit for Mark's system, and IMO he wouldn't want that around the program.

My theory is he made a list just because and always knew where he was going line Bronny James.

Duke has a TON of money. That's one of the richest private schools in the country.

So, they are still alumni and they have the resources to help us.
I understand what you're saying, but IMO Pope would agree that this would be going down the wrong path. I imagine he wants to distance the program from Calipari's players as much as possible.
