Sutton was an outstanding coach. He just liked to drink. BCG could coach too, but he was psycho and liked to drink.
Pope cannot coach, but at least he does not drink.
BCG bad Ls in 2007-2008:
Gardner Webb @ Rupp
UAB @ Freedom Hall (essentially a home game)
@Houston (who finished 3rd in CUSA)
San Diego @ Rupp
Louisville @ Rupp (unranked UL)

UK played only six ranked teams all year (seven if you include Marquette in the round of 64)

BCG's first-year record: 18-13 (in a crappy SEC)

BCG's bad Ls in 2008-2009:
VMI @ Rupp (111-103 - tell me how bad Pope is at coaching defense)

UK played only five ranked opponents in 2008-2009 (six of you include LSU in the SEC tournament)

BCG's 2008-09 record: 22-14 (NIT third round)

Pope's 2024-25 squad played 12 ranked opponents last year. More than BCG in both seasons. His record v. ranked teams? 8-4.
How many bad losses has Pope had? Zero. How many NCAA Tournament wins? Two.

Has this team looked good against top opponents this year? At times. They definitely need some work and some players to get healthy. BCG teams only looked good because he had absolute studs in Patterson and Meeks. I wanted BCG to be great. I was over Tubby. But he was awful.

Also, he was a drunk.

Get out with BCG > Pope talk.

That just explains how bad Pope is. Pope had 22 million and he is still worse. This season is inexcusable. We lost against UNC because we are tired? Come on. That is a coach screaming I do not know what to do.

You have your take on Cal and I have mine. It was the same Cal as 2014. People want to act like he did not do anything, but the 2019 team was one of the hottest teams in the country at the end of the year. However, COVID happened and the tournament was canceled. After Covid, all these players were granted an extra COVID year and then Cal's super freshman started playing against 6th year, 7th year, 8th year seniors and the game changed to an older players game. Now that we have moved past COVID and all these COVID years have expired the game is shifting back to a young talented players game.
Exhibit A: Pope's older transfer Portal strategy. Team is Terrible.
Exhibit B: MIkel Brown, Koa Peat, Darryn Peterson, Cameron Boozer, Darius Acuff, etc...

The truth of the matter is college basketball changed a lot during that stretch and no one had patience while Cal was trying to figure it out, even though Cal still was a #2 seed, #6 seed, #3 seed during this time. Not perfect, but not terrible as some say.

In 2022, as #2 seed Kentucky lost to #15 seed Saint Peters that made it to the regional final. This Saint Peter's team also defeated the #7 seed and #3 seed before losing in the regional Final.
In 2023, as #6 seed Kentucky lost to the #3 seed Kansas State that made it to the regional final and was a 3 point short of going to the final four and they also beat Michigan State on their run.
In 2024, as #3 seed Kentucky lost to the #14 seed Oakland team that had a 24 year old 6th year senior that got hot and hit 10 three points shots. Oakland lost in overtime in the second round by 4 points when the same guy shot 6 for 17 from the field. Oakland still showed that they were a solid team, but I agree this was a bad loss. But it happens in the NCAA tournament.

Changes to the Game
1. COVID
2. NIL
3. Transfer Rule

Maybe Cal was not the same Coach as the 2010-2015 Coach, but maybe also the fans were not the same appreciative fans as the 2010-2015 fans.
Yeah you are wrong.

He may do better at Arkansas but he was done here.

The facts you brought to counter my argument are impenetrable.

That is proof you cannot please some fans.

And? People comparing Billy G to Pope were intentionally using hyperbole. The board is infested enough with parasites so we don’t need liars. Yes, it’s going bad. We don’t need exaggeration to point that out. This year has been hemorrhoids.

He was over with. Some could see it. Some lived in past.
