This is the first Holiday Bowl game to be played in Petco Park. The Padres had to put in over $2M in modifications to fit a football field into the ballpark’s footprint The downtown location in the Gaslamp Quarter will provide a much better backdrop for the bowl game than Mission Valley. I foresee the BigTen jumping back in as an opponent to the PAC12 for this bowl game when the current agreement lapses with the ACC. This new venue will be fun for fans. The downside may be the site lines for a football game in a ballpark. It will be interesting to see response from fans attending the Holiday Bowl game in the new ballpark venue. Being close to the Gaslamp and harbor/waterfront may overcome issues fans may have watching the game at Petco Park.

Site has a subscription requirement. Big fan of Petco.
Sorry about that Tim. Try to get to where it displays “Reader View” and you can view the article without a subscription. I think the locals here are excited about the moving the game to Petco Park. (Qualcomm Stadium is demolished and the new Snapdragon Stadium capacity was considered to be too small for the bowl game.) The proximity to the Gaslamp Quarter is a big plus. Will be interested to see how attendees how feel about the sight lines in the ballpark while watching the Holiday Bowl. I know that’s been one of the issues viewing my a football game in a ballpark like Wrigley.
