Skipper is a total POS who turned the greatest network about sports into a propaganda outlet for extreme ideology.

Wish the worst for him and the entire network.

Not at all defending the UNC goon, or ESPN, but given Americans' obsession with politics these days, why wouldn't someone running a media outlet see a market for catering to political agendas? I despise politics to no end, and I'm far from a CEO or media biz owner, but it seems like smart business to shift the model to cater to what the people seem to be craving. Unfortunately, Americans have fallen hook, line and sinker for the bologna being spewed by politicians and propagated by social media, and it seems business moguls have taken notice and are simply adjusting to drive viewership.

Obviously, it didn't work for ESPN, given all of their layoffs and loss of viewership (more likely because of cord cutters and that most sports people just want sports - not politics), so it was a crap gamble. However, I can see what he was attempting to do, given the political climate taking a much deeper root in American opinion.

It was incredibly stupid. Especially during a time when people were dropping cable.

ESPN is a sports network, if you want to go political, try and not go with extreme political rhetoric and ideology. It will alienate your moderates and everyone from the other side. ESPN peddles in extreme politics, it's not normal or neutral. Why sacrifice half and more of the public and call it good business? This isn't about anything other than creating a totally propogandized media.

As you said it has totally backfired.

Man, you must be the maddest person in the world about ESPN. Just because they might not agree with you doesn't mean you should say such awful things about the guy. Doesn't reflect well on you.

If and when any viewer dependent based media entity (ESPN, NFL, CNN, FOX NEWS, NBA, PMSNBC, NASCAR, Daily Beast, MLB, HuffPo, WashPost, etc. etc. etc.) are perceived to "take sides" especially in any type of political issue or discussion where they should remain unbiased (excluding: rape, robbery, violent offenses, etc., etc.) they are going to lose a sizable portion of their viewership and future revenue.

These entities need to recognize where their demographic revenue is coming from. This IS NOT a good long term business model to live by if you want to maintain or grow your audience. It's not that difficult.

People don't mind politics in sports, so long as it's politics that they agree with. The same people who cry about politics at ESPN are the same people who inject politics into things on a UK basketball message board.
on a message board. I'm not going into football games to give my opinions on abortion, benghazi or to complain why Hillary Clinton isn't' in prison? Could you imagine if a player said he was going to kneel before the anthem until Hillary was in jail? I could get down with that but for the reason of "hey we're here to have fun and celebrate" I won't do it.

the problem with politics in sports is there are no conservative views allowed. And guess what ? I Don't even want to hear them. Just stfu , play football and keep your damned mouth shut on your opinions.
Exactly. ESPN inexplicably hired Rush Limbaugh and it thankfully lasted one week. Yeah, one-sidedness doesn't play well.

I’ll wager without any information that a small but real majority of Espn viewers probably lean opposite the political direction they wanted to go. I mean all the commercials are for trucks, life insurance, beer and viagra.

You have no clue as to what sports fans want. You want politics, tune into FOX, CNN, MSNBC. Most people who are sports minded that want to get away from it turn to sports venues for that. Others turn to films, TV shows, and music so, when these venues inject politics into their shows they lose viewership. We don't need politics all hours of the day like you.

This is a political thread whining about ESPNs politics that was originally posted on a Kentucky Basketball message board. Spare me your BS talking points. You guys are consumed and controlled by your politics.

you could ignore it or a rule could be imposed only have those views on one thread which there is right? Can we move the NFL protests to maybe some thing like a blm street protest and keep it there? NFL National Football League. Not National Political Discourse with Football too. Liberalism is a cancer and it has now grown and consumed the NFL. RIP

Why is the National Anthem even being played at a football game? When you have game night with your family and friends do y'all sing the national anthem first? Can we move the National Anthem to military ceremonies?

Republicans and Democrats are a cancer to this country. 2 trash parties who put up 2 trash candidates for their sheep followers who don't have a lick of principles, just pick sides based on their party.

Keyser Soze-you have a terrible tendency to be a jerk with each and every post. If you don't enjoy conversing with your fellow UK fans, why are you here?

I guess that's true if you are a racist mysogonist pig.
Pretty sure ppl just wanted something non establishment...even though he is illiterate on every issue, especially economics and wants an incompetent govt to run your life...dems had a guy. Instead they sat silent while the dnc colluded to take him out and Barry gave an endorsement bc his dnc debts got paid off. And identity politics...they couldn't give that up.

Yeah I know Trump hasn't done anything. Our economy is in the dumpster, and he's reviving the coal industry, has he even heard of global warming? He's so mean to the immigrants, black unemployment is at an all time low (slavery in 2018?) less people are on foodstamps (give them their food stamps back). I felt the Bern too! Free health care! Free college! Free food! Free child care! Bernie! Bernie! Bernie!
