Asa looks awesome. What are our chances here? Would be incredible to land him alongside Dylan, Ace, Lathan and Dortch.

This would be a incredible lineup (Final Four contender):

PG - Dylan, Davis
SG - Dortch/Simpson
SF - Ace, Gavin
PF - Asa, Mag
C - Lathan, Wolf

Highly unlikely Gavin is being benched as a returning sophomore.

I know everyone is enamored with a "Fab Five" but doubtful.
Also, ita funny that many say "Gavin can't start/has to adjust to the Big Ten. Doesn't matter he's a Top 20 recruit - all freshman have to adjust."
But then 2024 starting lineup projections are filled with freshman.

I agree Gavin would start...a great "problem" to have

And Dortch is never playing the 2G.

Was the podcast recorded before or after he got an offer from Baylor?
Idk but they pretty much said it's not happening. Even when we sent the offer out last week they said don't expect him here.

Seems like he's taking a bunch of visits now after being considered a Georgia lean, surprised you didn't mention:

Dortch is not a SG.

I didn't mention his visits because I didn't know his visit dates. I'm not in regular contact with Asa or his family. I also don't follow Joe Tipton on Twitter. Kids can take unlimited official visits now (rule change went into effect 7/1/23).

I think he is Georgia's to lose. His brother is at UGA, it's about a 6 hour 30 minute drive from Fort Walton Beach, FL to Athens, GA and the Georgia assistant that is leading his recruitment has probably been recruiting him longer than anyone (he was recruiting him to UF a couple of years ago) + UGA will have a competitive NIL pkg for him.

The thing that still has me scratching my head is how the high major Florida programs aren't bigger factors in his recruitment.

Landing Newell would be somewhat of a very large statement in terms of the CBB recruiting landscape, but I am fairly comfortable with the long term talent and development of Bryce Dortch as a hybrid PF, who can guard/defend multiple positions.

Newell is clearly an outstanding player and can start anywhere he goes from Day 1, but Newell at RU would essentially end the RU playing career of Mawot Mag as a 5th year senior in 2024-25..

It is already debatable of where Mag would even find the floor for more than 12 minutes a game at RU if you landed Newell, mixed with Ace Bailey, Dortch, Dylan Harper, Lathan Sommerville and Gavin Griffiths.

Dortch is very talented in his own right as it stands and Newell in play at RU, would stunt or slow his development as well. I am not quite sure how this would work out in the long run. I would probably roll the dice on trying to keep Mag as a 5th year and mixing in Dortch at the 3 or 4 with Bailey, than trying to figure out a rotation that makes sense with Newell and Ace etc.

Outside of Dylan and Ace you are correct, most of the freshmen won't be immediate starters/impact players. But those two are one-and-done locked in starters from day one. There is a huge difference between the top 5 guys and top 20ish guys like Gavin.

I’m excited for Gavin but him turning out to be better than Dylan and ace would be very surprising. He’s not even a 5 star much less the best player in his class.
Hes a borderline 4-5 star and if he's the best shooter of his class, the NBA may come knocking.

Maybe or maybe not. The difference is if the draft for eligible 2024 players was today Dylan and Ace would be lottery picks. Not sure Gavin would be consider today for his draft class. He has a high ceiling but work to do.
