For a little perspective, last year’s other conference darlings, Indiana, are now 0-5 after their loss to Maryland. They and the Cats are now 1-9 combined in conference versus last year’s 12-3, with each team giving OSU a scare.

There is clearly a lot of wreckage in both Bloomington and Evanston, but I really believe both Fitz and Tom Allen are good coaches and decent people who will take stock, make adjustments, and right their respective ships. For Fitz, my guess is that this time, it will take two years, but I expect the Cats to be back to respectability by 2023; Indiana has a tougher road because of the arms race in the East Division (see MSU and Maryland) but, like Fitz, he is a builder.

The struggles of those two programs are a punch-in-the-face reminder that sustained excellence is incredibly difficult.
